I remember hearing for the first time at the seminar that having this procedure removes hunger hormones. I assumed it must be a myth, even a "sell" on their part. I thought, there is no way I will ever not care about what's next to eat, when I'll eat it, how much I'll have, and how long I'll regret it before repeating.

That was four months ago. Today I absolutely believe it!

I'm a month out. Weight is falling off me, and I have zero appetite. I moved to solids about a week ago and they are "nice" and all...but I literally DO NOT CARE ABOUT food. I still prepare it for my family, go out to eat a few times a week....but I have NO interest in food whatsoever!

Honestly - I've been waiting for this feeling all my life.

I know in time I'll get my appetite back, but right now I'm just really grateful to be experiencing this. I am so, so happy I had this done.

The downside is what you'd expect - I have very low energy about half of the day. I'm managing to get most of my Protein and supplements in. Water is no problem. Most days I get an hour of exercise (walk or swim) at an easy pace. Too easy...70 year olds pass me constantly. I would love to make my workouts harder, but don't have the power to push through for long.

At any rate, I'm easily fatigued and really hope this changes in the near future. All in all, I'm loving the great benefit of not having an appetite; of not obsessing about food. Amazing! :)

Ohhh, lucky you..... I can't wait to feel like that. My daughter has had the bypass a year ago. She is doing so well, she has recovered her energy levels, and enjoying her exercise. Well done to you for exercising when you're feeling like you do. You'll turn a corner and also start to make time to eat regularly.

Keep up the good work

I'm about 9 weeks out and feel like I can enjoy food, but it has taken an appropriate place in my thoughts and my life. I don't obsess over food like I used to and hunger is very manageable. Food is primarily for nutrition now.

I too am a lucky one that hasn't felt hungry and more important those cravings don't hit me either. I am 8 months out and so happy those hormones have not returned, as of yet! I also thought it was a scam and told my bariatric LP nurse that she was crazy....boy my foot was BIG when I had to put it back in my mouth after surgery. Let's all appreciate this gift because not everyone has it. Happy weight loss to everyone :)

I don't really real it either. I can feel when my tummy is empty, but I'm not feeling hungry.

My obsession with food now is how to get the biggest nutritional bang for what I eat.

You all are lucky! I don't think that is the norm. I was so excited to have no hunger, and that was true for the first 8 weeks or so, and now that I am almost 3 months out, it's returned. Certainly not at preop levels, but I have some mild hunger at normal times during the day. I hope your decreased hunger levels last as long as possible! Don't be worried if they come back, that's normal. It's not the same as preop, and you can still only eat so much anyway. :)

In the beginning this was true for me. The first few months my hunger was very minimal and I didn't really desire to eat. At about 4 months post op the hunger returned though and now over a year out I sadly do have hunger again. It's odd though because sometimes it's minimal and sometimes it's just like it was pre op. Wish the hunger stayed away!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
