Sarahjane79 397 Posted March 2, 2014 Alright. I need some insight. Yesterday after I put my boots on, I did something that caused A LOT of pain in my lower left incision. I either twisted or I don't even know. I just know I went from feeling great to wanting to die. I called my surgeon right away and they said I could have ripped some of the muscle back apart that was healing, or strained it, or pulled the internal suture. Ok. Great. She said I would be sore for a day or 2, to use pain meds and she had heard sometimes a heating pad helps. So I of course took pain meds and pretty much spent the rest of the night laying down. I got up this am and it was still sore. I took more pain meds, walked around some and then laid back down this afternoon. I got up again and was pleasantly surprised the pain was gone. Barely even a twinge of soreness. So I figured if take a shower to feel human. Hah. As I get in the shower, the pain comes back with a vengeance. I proceed to basically cry the whole time I'm showering. I take more pain meds after I'm done because I'm in so much pain I can't function. Basically. It's worse than it was yesterday. Yesterday it didn't hurt at all if I was sitting or laying down. Now it's tender even when I'm sitting/laying down. Standing or walking or actually bending to sit down makes me cry. No joke. I got up a little.bit ago and cried the entire time. Now, for me to cry about pain, it really F'n hurts. I can take a lot before you know I'm in pain. I guess the point of all this rambling is... is this still something considered normal? Or should I actually call my doc tomorrow? I have his cell number. It's more that it actually hurts to live now. Like when I'm standing it hurts to even take shallow breaths. I'm just so pissed at myself, as I have to go back to classes after I've been on break. I was doing sooooo well, and now I'm worried I won't be able to go because it hurts every step I take. Plus, how much can I really learn if I'm on tons of pain meds? Hahaha. Thanks for reading all this crap. I know it's long, and I apologize.
newlysleeved 4 Posted March 2, 2014 I am going through the exact same thing right now although I don't think that in as much pain as you are, but I am defiantly needing to take my pain meds. I don't know what I did to hurt the muscle, but I sure did I am going to the dr. On Tuesday. It sound like you should call your surgeon to make sure everything is ok and to help with some pain relief.
Sarahjane79 397 Posted March 2, 2014 I have a 2 week follow up appt on Tuesday... But at the rate I'm going, I'm not gonna make it. I can't move without busting out in tears. I got up to pee after posting this and it ended with me taking even more pain meds and laying on the couch in tears. It's miserable. I can't even touch my stomach without doubling over in pain. Waaaaaaaah. I hope you feel better!
Z28ChevyCamaro 45 Posted March 2, 2014 If the pain is that bad, go to the ER. If you don't want to do that, then call your doc. You shouldn't be in that much pain.
shaza1963 71 Posted March 2, 2014 That is way too much pain. You should go to the ER. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm sorry you are going through this.
Sherry S 103 Posted March 2, 2014 SJ I sure hope by the time you read this post you are feeling better. I wonder if pulling on those boots didn't do it. Call your Dr's cell phone. It is NOT normal to have that much pain. Please keep us updated.
Sarahjane79 397 Posted March 2, 2014 I called my doctor. Apparently it's normal. I trust him so much, but I hung up and just cried. Ugggg. I just. I didn't imagine the pain would get worse before it gets better.
Sarahjane79 397 Posted March 2, 2014 Thanks for the replies! I'm thinking I'm just going to double my pain meds and hope for the best. The bottle says 15 ml every 4-6 hours. I'm just going to take 30 ml. I was taking 30 ml of it after surgery while in the hospital. He said to take motrin, which he said is a no no, right? I assume it's for the anti inflammatory aspect? Blah.

butterfly_gal 151 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) I had the same pain a few weeks out. My doctor told me it was normal. Muscles and nerves growing back together. It went away in under a week. But... Only you know your body and if the pain is something horrible, call the doctor Edited March 2, 2014 by butterfly_gal

Only you know your body and if the pain is something horrible, call the doctor Yup. That's what they (his nurse and him) told me. I just wasn't expecting it to get 10 times worse before it got better! Hah.
anxioustobethin 6 Posted March 2, 2014 I feel so bad for you.i'm not sure how your Dr. could or want to diagnose you over the phone. With that much pain, you may want to protect yourself by going into the emergency room for a CAT scan. It's better to be safe.
m&m4ever 109 Posted March 2, 2014 I would def get that checked ASAP! I had a leak 2 weeks after the surgery and the pain was horrible! You should have a cat scan to be sure everything's ok.
Z28ChevyCamaro 45 Posted March 2, 2014 Motrin is a definite no no that close to surgery. Motrin promotes bleeding. Tylenol is recommended after surgery. I would get to the er. My doc told me I was fine too right after surgery when I had severe cramping. Turns out I had extreme pancreatitis. Your doctor doesn't know your body. YOU DO.
