Daly444 2 Posted March 2, 2014 Hi I'm two & 1/2 weeks out from surgery. At time of surgery I was 223. So far I've only lost 16 pounds, 207 lbs. I'm on my liquid diet & I gained "2 lbs" was 207lbs now 209lbs. I drink Powerade zero, my stomach isn't tolerating Water. I do get my Soups from Olive Garden, pot belly, & panara bread. I'm shure there not the best choices but it's only two Tbls, twice a day & my stumach has always been finicky so if something actually sits well I eat that. Also my Protein Drink is called core power, which I love & only 100 cal/20g Protein but there's 11g sugar. Could this be why I've gained weight or stalling weight loss? please let me know. bloreorbust 286 Posted March 2, 2014 Expect little 1-3lb fluctuations on a daily basis. You can't physically consume enough calories right now to gain 2lbs, so it is just Water weight. Yes, that is too many grams of sugar for a Protein drink. You need to find something in the single digits, 5 or less grams of sugar is best. Also, if at all possible, give up the restaurant Soups. They are full of salt (which may make you retain excess water), and just a bad habit to get into after surgery. Ideally, make as much of your own food as possible so you can control what goes in it. 3 pquinn181, sarah.gibson and Daly444 reacted to this
Daly444 2 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the advise, it will be hard to find a new Protein drink. This one is pre-made and not thick it goes down so smooth with no after taste. My stomach is very particular, if something smells funny, I'm nauseous. If I look at food that is slimy or bloody ect, I'm nauseous. If food has a bad taste or is gritty or leaves a bad after taste, I'm nauseous. These nauseous feelings have led to throwing up, hart burn, & the sweats. My parents stopped saying "just try it" along time ago. Lol The Protein drinks I've tried are: muscle milk (both powdered & pre-mixed), EAS Advanced Edge, EAS Myoplex, ensure , Special K, stuff from lifetime fitness, pure Protein ready to drink, boost, Isopure all of which made me nauseous & threw up after one. If anybody knows of any Liquid Protein drinks that are real good, please let me know. As for the weight gain you were right I just weighed myself & I went down to 205lbs. Also I'm taking your advise on the home made Soup, problem is I'm not a cook, but I have a crock pot & the will to try. Thank you so much. bloreorbust 286 Posted March 3, 2014 Hey maybe you'll become a cook post surgery! You never know. At least you might be able to avoid the things that nauseate you. Hands down the best and most popular RTD Protein shake amongst bariatric folks is Premier. You can find them at Sam's Club, Walmart, costco, and online. Very very smooth texture. Seriously they are like drinking a Protein milkshake. nectar and Celebrate powder protein are excellent as well. They blend to a very smooth consistency, although personally I always add extra liquid to a ratio of 6oz milk and 6oz Water per serving. 2 Daly444 and Tgarden reacted to this
Wallflower7522 328 Posted March 3, 2014 Try premiere Protein. I've tried a ton of different ones leading up to my surgery and I like those the best. They are about $20 for 12 at Sams club if you have a membership. They also have a snack size version that's smaller, but still has 18 grams of protein. Those are $20 for 18. Have you talked to your doc about something to help you with the naseusa?
jenjen2/13 1 Posted March 4, 2014 I had rny on 2/13 and my scale is not moving and actually went up 2lbs. I am so discouraged. 1 Daly444 reacted to this
Tgarden 76 Posted March 4, 2014 I am still waiting for my surgery date, but have some info my nurse shared with me that might be helpful. She said that your body will eventually, and possibly periodically, go into "starvation mode". If your body feels threatened that it is not being fed, everything shuts down as far as weight loss. You will be more tired during these plateaus, and might feel just generally yucky. It is important to keep getting down the required amounts of food, Water and protein! Eventually your body will get the signal that yes, you are still feeding it, just not as much as you used to, and it will kick back into calorie burning mode. Some people have plateaus that last two to three days, some can last up to two weeks. This can be expected for the rest of your weight loss journey. The important thing is to not become discouraged. Easier said than done, I'm sure! I will pray for you that things begin to move in the right direction! Best of luck! 2 Daly444 and pquinn181 reacted to this
Daly444 2 Posted March 4, 2014 Thank you all. I will definitely try premier protien drink. I do have a membership to SAMs club too. Good to know were to get it in bulk if it goes down well. I did try cooking in my crock pot, was quite the experience. Defiantly not a cook. Lol although we just got a whole Foods were I live & found some Soup that has only 3g fat & 3g sugars. That's got to be better then pennara & Olive Garden or pot belly. Haven't tried them yet but hopefully good. Thanks again for all the support & prayers. I'm trying to do this w/ four teenagers & the two boys have bleeding disorders & one son with autism, although... Even with the medical issues & autism they are still much easy'er to handle then the two teenage girls. Ha!
chelseabell91 19 Posted March 7, 2014 I get "unjury" fro my doc. It's made for people like us. Lots of flavors- even Soup. Probably can get online on Amazon. 1 Daly444 reacted to this

I eat restaurant Soups on occasion. Once in a while won't hurt but all the time may be a based idea. Greek yogurt is great, too. Foods smelling and tasting 'not right' can last 4-6 weeks and will gradually go away. It does make it difficult to find things that don't taste terrible until then. Some things that you don't like right now may taste better later on so don't give up on them completely. Hang in there! :-)
luv2golfnow 29 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) My doc put me on regular food after 10 days. Soups often contain alot of sodium and fat so be careful. Chili and chicken salad were my common food of choice during weeks 3 and 4. Edited March 7, 2014 by luv2golfnow
thinnerdays 0 Posted March 7, 2014 Try Jay Robb whey Protein-- chocolate is good and mix with skimmed milk, and flavor with vanilla extract...it helps...not too bad and I HATE the Protein drinking but we HAVE to do it. I'd like to keep my hair and muscles that I do have! Good luck!
Daly444 2 Posted March 8, 2014 I am so afraid of Hair loss, so I'm going to try the premier, & at the hospital where I got my surgery they have ungery so I'll give that a try too if the premier doesn't sit well. It's so hard when my family eats dominos pizza & McDonald's & subway, Culver's & Arbys. Sometimes I'm tempted to take a slice of dominos & lick it. But I don't, I'm a good girl. But the temptation is so hard. Ugh, I find it so hard with all these foods I used to eat & love smelling up the house. I'm 3weeks now & I was told one Protein drink a day but it just seems odd when were not getting protein any other way. Has any of your Drs. or nutritionalist said any different ? mamafine23 101 Posted March 8, 2014 For Hair loss , it is normal and it does come back ... I lost some at 3 months out and it came back at 9 months out from my surgery ... Make sure you are getting all your Vitamins and add Biotin to your daily intake of vitamins ... Another thing that helps with the Protein is unflavored Unjury and you can mix it in everything but Water ... 1 Daly444 reacted to this
