Surgery is March 11 and I'm getting nervous!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My date is March 11! I am super excited, but today as I studied notes from the doctor's office and what I need to do to prepare myself, I started getting jittery. I have some questions, and please if any and all could answer (honestly, of course), I would appreciate it. Knowing beforehand would really help:

1. What were your initial feelings when you woke up from surgery?

2. If you experienced pain/soreness/gas cramps, how long did it last? Was there anything that relieved it?

3. Were you hungry? Were you nauseous?

4. When could you go back to work? When could you travel (an hour drive to a friend's house)?

.5. Could you feel the band in there?

Thanks! I so appreciate any and all info! :)

Congrats on your surgery date!! Now I can only speak for me cuz everyone's pain threshold is different.

1. I woke up with incredible gas pain.

2. The gas pain lasted for 2 days. I took Miralax and Gripe Water. The Gripe Water did the trick.

3. No hunger no nausea.

4. My Sx was on a Wednesday I thought I could go back to work Monday. That was a no go. Went to work the following Friday. Another no go. I will be working from home next week. Still sore at the port area.

5. I felt my band tighten for the first time today when I got upset at my teenager. Stress does affect the band.

I hope that helps. I can't wait to hear what other Bandsters experienced. :-)

Don't get nervos. Remember we all have different experiences and each Doctor does things different.

1. I woke up happy as a bug in a rug, No pain and stayed all night and slept like a log.

2. I didn't have the shoulder pain or gas. I was able to fluff "I call it" enough to relieve any gas in stomach.

3. Not hungrey at first, but was a few weeks later, I think that was my fault for not eating right. No nauseous at all.

4. Don't work, retired 73 yrs old.

5. Can't feel the band but I can feel the port, just a lump under the skin.

6. The fills do not hurt, no pain at all.

Keep a good adittude and be happy your finally going to get your band. Don't worry.

Hi! I was just banded on 3/3 and posted the experience on my blog: http://banderland.weebly.com. I'm 2 days post op and have muscle pain but nothing horrible like gas pain. I am planning to go back to work Monday (but we will see).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
