My 6 month pre-op I had one Protein Shake a day for three months. I cut my Pasta, rice and starch a little not completely, but ate tons of fruits and vegetables. The last three months I did two shakes a day and one meal (meat and veggies). And cut more servings of my Pasta, rice and potatoes. By the time surgery came around I had weened myself of the pasta, rice and potatoes, but when I see them boy oh boy I want some jasmine rice!!! Lol.....haven't touched it. When I hit my goal I'll treat myself.....maybe ;)

I think cutting out the coffee and bread are going to be the hardest. I am also doing one Protein shake as a meal once a day. Do know of one that does not taste like chalk or leave an after taste that tastes like feet? There are also lots of great apps on the phone that can help you eat better. To answer the question, I eat what I normally eat, just count calories and adjust portions, the rest will work itself in as you adjust your diet. The app I use is called MY DIET DIARY. I just started the process in Feb so I am still working on adjusting what I eat. If your insurance will cover it, maybe consult a nutritionist. Best of luck.

I used Syntha-6 (chocolate cake batter and vanilla ice cream). You'll be surprised what your tastes will be after surgery. There is an app called my fitness pal. It basically does the same thing, tracks everything. It's very useful. Haha I hear you about the Protein Shakes tasting like feet. I can't even look at a Protein shake these days! Good luck to both of you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
