Protein supplement?

Recommended Posts

The "weight gainer" stuff is for people who are body building and trying to increase muscle mass .... Ignore the NAME of it and look at the ingredients!! You want the highest amount of Protein per serving with relatively low carbs/fat.

If you are allergic to milk, stay away from "casein" ingredients (Calcium caseinate etc.) Generally you'll want to stay away from soy Protein because soy contains phytoestrogens and your fat-burning will release plenty of your own stores estrogens.... And you don't need both. I find that "Designer Whey" is not bad tasting and comes in smallish containers so you aren't stuck with a two-gallon tub of something gross. If in doubt, talk to your dietician!

Yes, there is so many Protein supplements. I have tried many pre surgery and I have heard that our tastes buds may change post surgery, so do not invest alot at this time.

My surgeon said to look for under 200 calories, under 3 grams of sugar and over 25 gr of Protein.< /p>

I am currently drinking powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken flavor and chocolate. So far so good. My surgery is March 11th, so I will continue with these supplements as long as I can tolerate the flavors. Good Luck!

There r so many good ones to choose from. Per my surgeon instructions I select those that are high Protein being sure the carb and sugar content isn't is relatively low.

My absolute favorite is Chike. The taste is so amazing and I didn't believe their advertisement that it taste great only shaken with Water but it really did. The have a great return policy so if u but and don't like it they will gladly return it. Check out their website they have great stuff.

My faves list:

Chike ( it don't get no better) order on line

Premier Protein (chocolate is good) Cosco & SAMS Club

unjury (love the chicken Soup flavor) order on line

Isopure is a great product I just wasn't fond of the taste at all and if I'm going to be on a liquid diet pre and post op I want to at least like what I'm having to consume.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
