While im trying to balance all these pre-op clearance appointments and work.. what else should I be doing during this process? Should I be trying to start eating healthier now? Well I know I should be either way lol but I also remember the doctors saying that you have to show some type of improvement in weight loss on your own before surgery can be done.

I had to do the two week liver shrink diet, which is basically Atkins. I decided to cut out all caffeine, carbonation and alcohol then since I couldn't have it after surgery anyways, it just made it easier for there to be three less things I usually had but could no longer have. Going sugar free was hard enough at first anyways lol.

I just started this process in Feb and I have found that between appointments and waiting for the ball to get rolling. It has been very helpful to do as much research as possible. I have several books about how others have made the journey through this surgery. It has brought up several questions that I need to have addressed at my next appointment. Things I would not have thought of had I not been doing the research. However, this site has been super helpful and I love that you can be completely honest and not be judged about what you say. I have also been working on little changes that are going to have to be made post-op. For example, not drinking with meals and getting on the Vitamin schedule.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
