Hi! I am in the process, I've been cleared by my dietician, have the psyc eval on 3/11 and hopefully my last meeting with NUT and another meeting with my surgeon on 3/19 to clarify that I want the sleeve and not bypass. Because I was a smoker my surgeon required I be nicotine free for 3mo. before the surgery. I waiting told that because I have BCBS IL that insurance wouldn't be a major issue and would be approved quickly. I am praying for a May surgery date.

Oh I am having it done @ UIC by Dr. Elli

Dr Elli performed my sleeve on March 13. Very pleased with everything so far. Saw him today to remove staples. He said everything looks good and I don't see him again until 1 month. Hang in there and be encouraged! It's worth it all in the end

My surgery date is April 8th and I am doing my pre op diet right now. My surgeon is Dr. Johnathan Wallace from the Kane Bariatric center. He tells me I will be in the hospital for a couple of nights. Am having the sleeve done at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. BCBS has been good for me too. Approved in about a week. I really appreciate the whole Kane Center. They have taught me that the sleeve is a tool to help me loose weight and the nutritionist is wonderful. I AM going to lose this weight to get healthy so I can play with my grandkids.

Hey Chicago Sleevers!

How are things going for you all?

I'm getting ready to start my pre op diet for surgery on April 21st. It's getting close and the nervousness and excitement is rising!

I'm trying to adjust to my new CPAP. I was sent for a sleep study and that was the outcome. Once I get clearance they will let me schedule my surgery date. Impatiently waiting.

Badabing what does the CPAP machine actually do? I know people that had them but never knew how they worked.

It maintains continuous air flow to help keep the airway open while you're sleeping. You pretty much wear a mask that is connected to the machine by a hose. It takes some adjusting but everyone I know says they sleep much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
