Hi! I am in the process, I've been cleared by my dietician, have the psyc eval on 3/11 and hopefully my last meeting with NUT and another meeting with my surgeon on 3/19 to clarify that I want the sleeve and not bypass. Because I was a smoker my surgeon required I be nicotine free for 3mo. before the surgery. I waiting told that because I have BCBS IL that insurance wouldn't be a major issue and would be approved quickly. I am praying for a May surgery date.

Oh I am having it done @ UIC by Dr. Elli

readyanxiousscared-I was told BCBSIL insurance wouldn't be a issue either. I'm hoping for April or May surgery date.

The first day was not so bad. But the second my body ached a lot and think I only drink about 4 ounces of Water that day. Btw I had my surgery at Silvercross hospital in New Lenox. Things are getting better now. My doctor had me on puréed foods now and I can eat about 2 oz a day. I just do not feel like eating but I try to make sure I get my Protein and water in. I am only drinking about 40 ounces of water. I just try to up the amount more everyday.

Daunique1 - 4 days in seems you are doing awesome. I would imagine u wouldn't have a desire to eat right surgery. Just keep getting your strength up and try to rest.

It's good to know BCBS only took 10 days for you. Makes me feel better. How long after approval were u scheduled for surgery?

Are you home now or still in the hospital?

I was approved on January 17th and was scheduled on January 20th only because I had to wait for my final clearance. I have been home since Wednesday.

I was sleeved on 11/20 at st. Joseph's downtown Chicago............. The best choice I have ever made......... I'm done 60lbs since surgery....... This is a great forum to learn and ask questions.......... I think I was lucky since I had no issues..... No pain.... When I woke up it felt like a period..............

I've been jumping through the required hoops since the end of August and my final hoop is today (!) -- my final visit of medically supervised weight loss. After that box is checked off, the surgeon's office will be putting in for insurance approval. It's expected quickly, so once I get a surgery date I will begin 1 month of liquid Protein diet. My surgeon is Dr. Ervin "Woody" Denham and surgery will either be at Highland Park Hospital or Evanston Hospital.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
