Ree 215 Posted March 1, 2014 I'm about 10 weeks post op and last night I started getting left shoulder pain, it hurts more when I inhale deep. I was wondering how common this is? My surgeon said if something was to go wrong it usually happens in the first 6 weeks. So is this just a fluke or something I need to get checked out?
SnohoGal98296 371 Posted March 1, 2014 Ree, i was told last year that gall bladder pain can feel like shoulder pain, do you also have pain under your rib cage, right side? Not trying to diagnose! but share my experience... I complained of shoulder pain and under rib pain, my gp said "textbook gall bladder" and then sent me for a ct scan. Luckily it wasn't serious. I am pre surgery, going for a June date.
Catherine707 253 Posted March 1, 2014 I had what I thought was a muscle spasm at the base of my right shoulder blade - turns out it was my gall bladder. Gall bladder pain can radiate to lots of places in the abdomen, so if it doesn't go away, you should have it checked out by a doctor. The gas pain from the surgery goes away within a week or 10 days so I doubt that is what is causing your pain. I hope you feel better soon!
Ree 215 Posted March 1, 2014 The only other discomfort I get sometimes is located under my left ribcage, but I figured that was just build up from not being able to go to the bathroom for a few days. Usually after I go, the pain goes away. This left shoulder pain is new and it's not a whole lot of pain but it's irritating. I usually get this kind of pain if I'm sitting in a weird position for too long but once I get up and move around the pain usually subsides. So far it hasn't left. Dobeigh 69 Posted March 1, 2014 I never had any shoulder pain related to my surgery. Good luck!
