I was at 240 on my dr appointment day January 21st. Since I have only lost about 4 pounds. I told him I was eating 1200 Calories a day. He told me that was not enough told me to go to 1500. I did and ever since my weight loss is slow. I eat about 30% fat or 50 grams, 20% Protein or 75 grams, 50% carbs or 180 grams. My sugar is about 60 grams. Do I need to go back to 1200 or am I at a plateau? Or do I need to lower fat, sugar, and carbs per day?

Hi! You should only be taken in at most 100 carbs a day, your good with Protein, I would also decrease your sugar intake... I don't know if your exercising but that will boost your metabolism as well! Good luck!

Tell us about yourself. Are you male or female? How old are you? Personally, I don't lose weight at 1200 and would certainly plateau or maybe even gain at 1500 calories. But if you are a 23 year old male, that may not be a problem for you at all. What sort of exercise are you getting? Do you get in a minimum of 64 oz of Water daily?

I am not a nutritionist, but just from what I have seen for many people here I would make the following changes. This is just my opinion. I do think that a diet with 50% carbs is not very good for weight loss or even long term maintenance, but I'm a low carber. I also think higher fats from good fat sources (nuts, vegetables, oils) are very healthy and helpful for weight loss.

  1. Keep your Protein where it is or even increase it to 80-90 grams
  2. Drop the fat to 30-40 grams
  3. Drop the carbs to 40-60 grams (net grams)
  4. Drop the sugars to 15-25 grams
  5. Get a minimum of 10-15 grams of Fiber in every day (I'm a Fiber fan)
  6. Go back to 1200 calories max since that worked for you until you changed it

Let us know what happens. Good luck.

I am a male who will be 45 this year. I do dink Water, but it usually has crystal lite in it. I get about the 64 this way. Does it have to be straight water or will this work?

The doctor said that my size I should be eating 1500 calories. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt. I try to keep my fat per serving under 9 grams, carbs under 1 grams per serving.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
