I had my surgery one week ago. I feel so exhausted these days. I don't know if this is normal. I think I'm eating the right things. Taking Vitamins. It's an effort to move. I force myself at times even walking my dog around the block a couple of times. But totally feel exhausted. Maybe it's cause I used to drink coffee all day. Could be withdrawal? Any ideas or suggestions.

A big part of it is that your body is recovering from major abdominal surgery and there can be residual effects of the anesthesia.

exhausted

"The One Thing We Have in Common, is that we're all different!!!!"

There is no "norm" on how people feel post op

some people feel great and have returned to work within a few days

others are tired, feel a little weak for a few days - maybe a week or two :(

you "should"/will gradually gain your strength back :)

don't overdue anything

if you need a nap in the middle of the day......go for it :)

who deserves it more?? :)

you just had major surgery :o

you are the important one for now - take care of yourself

if you have kids, tell them to go run around the block for a week :D

speedy recovery :)

We stopped all caffeine a couple months before surgery so we were detoxed. I felt so much energy after surgery and walked the malls (never liked to shop). Then in the past two months I have had periods of being a little down ....I think this comes after this surgery, as we are doing major life changes. It is a little scary to many of us. So my thought is you may just be having a little down in the dumps feeling and adjusting to all the food and body changes. Spring is ahead, and sunshine will warm our souls a bit and we can get outside. Hang in there. You are going to be just perfect!!!

Eating nothing but fresh air for the first few days will do that to a person.

Certainly did it for me.

Caveat - everyone is different - but for me, I didn't become a 'normal' person, until I hit puree's and then, this was only half normal. Full normal came back when I was on solids and could introduce a few carbs and some proper meat Protein. Now, I have a 2.5hr window of 'normal' post a meal/snack and then when the food wears off, its like my battery has run flat. I have to be careful of this now.

Hang in there - its going to take a while to find your groove. As Kathy says - have a little nap whenever you can. sleep is a wonderful thing :)

hey I feel the same way, sometimes I get so tired, I can sleep for hours in the day, kinda hard when you have 3 kids. boy do I love my sleep now, never take it for granted again. somedays I feel wonderful and don't need a nap but other day s I feel like someone kicked the wind right out of me. it is normal, like they said above you just had major surgery so your body is still getting use to all your changes. take time for yourself

I was taking a nap pretty much every day for the first 6 weeks. That's how long i took off of work. Its normal to be tired you just had major surgery and are barely eating!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
