Liquid diet feeling drained.

Recommended Posts

I am on day 3 of my pre op liquid diet and I literally feel drained. I am light headed and hungry and weak. Is this normal. No history of diabetes. Any thought would be appreciated.

I am on day two and I feel the same way. I hear it gets better but it is hard now. I don't know if you have your Vitamins yet or not but don't forget to start them now if you are liquid only. Good luck. When is your surgery date? Mine is March 10th.

It is definately hard but it does get easier. I had a headache for the first four days but i then went on to constantly sweat for two days and then i got a huge burst of energy! It was so weird. I was sleeved on wednesday, its saturday and im going home and i feel awesome! I believe had i not stayed on the pre surgery diet i wouldnt be recovering as well. Keep up the good work and even though it sux think positive! This diet is getting you ready for your new life- if you stick to it 100% you will ace the recovery and you will be used to it for when you do start your clear fluids diet after the op. goodluck!

Thanks everyone. So far I have followed this 100%. I have to keep big picture in mind. I would rather my body go through detox now rather than after surgery. I can do this. We all can do this. :)

It is so difficult!! My surgery is March 12th. I feel like I'm starving all the time. I have been going to bed super early just to get through the days. Ugh! But it will all be worth it in the end.

Getting your life back is worth any short term inconvenience or "yucky" feeling. Believe me, YOU are worth it.

We are almost at your point (next month we hope!) but I think we'll get a head start and gradually go on our pre op diet now so it's not such a shock on our bodies.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
