I think it's more the hospital environment that drys you...plus your liquid intake will be impaired at first, so that affects your skin, and your lips... it doesn't hurt to have some in your purse at all times anyway, right? If you don't like the little socks with the rubber soles, you may want to bring some slippers to walk around the hospital with, as they will get you up and walking asap afterwards... good luck...you've GOT THIS!

I'm right behind you...mine is March 5th....and, I'm already packed!

Slippers

favorite pillow

Biotin gel to keep mouth moist

lip balm (I love EOS and bought a special lemon flavored one just for surgery)

Moisturizer (if you have dry skin)
Nasal saline spray (if you suffer dry/stuffy nose)

really stretchy jammies

baby wipes (to help feel fresh and clean. ((I use them on my face, armpits, Under boobs, etc...they clean great, are gentle, remove makeup better than any expensive makeup wipe, and are totally hypoallergenic!))
gas x strips

entertainment (phone, tablet, chargers, earbuds, book)

C-pap machine and accouterments

I always over prepare and bring too much wherever I go!

@btlombardo68...I have not cried yet, just frustrated sometimes that I have done this to myself and need surgery to correct. Not that I think I did this purposely, but having babies, SSRI's (weight gain side affect noted and used), and menopause, have made me quite the plumpkin! ;-) I think it's normal to have emotional rollerecoaster feelings over this, but if you go to support group and listen to the stories from the veterans,...It's going to all be okay and you will more than likely be saying you wished you had done it sooner! I'm keeping busy and refuse to allow my head to take in any negative thoughts. If I have any doubts creep in (and they do) I look into the future and what I want for me going forward after surgery. I want to fit in regular clothes. I want to take better care of my health (55+ and don't like the idea of diabetes, stroke, and electric carts at walmart!) I want to feel like a human being and be treated that way. Try to focus on the outcome of the surgery and you will be on the other side with me counting the pounds we lost. Good luck to you!

Well..... I've had a rough go of it. Pain, nausea, trouble with Protein making me gag, lol

But yeah, I'd do it over in a heartbeat. Funny thing is, I have severe spinal stenosis with an exorbitant amount of lower back and hip pain. I walked with a walker for a year until I started taking a drug called Lyrica. Lyrica helped my nerve pain and I was able to walk for a limited time with minimal pain. NOW I take no bp meds and no Lyrica. Sure I get fatigued Bc I just had a major surgery. But.... No back or hip pain. I've already eased enough pressure off of my back and hips to discontinue what I literally thought of as a miracle drug.

Funny thing is, you'll hear people say "after surgery it gets better every single day" and they aren't BSing you. It's true. Every day you feel better physically and get stronger emotionally.

Best thing I've ever done :D

April

Ok, my hospital list:

Stuffed bear or small firm pillow for pressure when getting up or down, coughing, and my ride home. (I have a 3hr ride home) I was told to put a bright pillowcase on it instead of white so it won't get confused with hospital linens or forgotten.

Blistex. Some hospitals don't allow Chapstick due to the glycerine in it, but blistex is allowed.

Phone charger attached to a small extension cord.

Panties. They let my sister wear them after surgery and she felt less exposed in them when male nurses were checking her incisions, etc plus you can tuck your drain into them while you're up and about if you have a drain.

Toothpaste and toothbrush

Deodorant

Hairbrush

I plan on wearing the same clothes and flip flops home as I wear to the hospital.

Gas x strips

Lotion. I remember my sister's hands were so dry and she was always asking for my lotion.

List of ppl to contact n tell them I made it out of surgery in case I'm too out of it. My bf is out of state and will be wondering how I am. My kids will be worrying too.

Tweezers. You never know when ur gonna need to pluck or tweeze

Medical binder

Socks

Change for vending machine

CPAP

Spirometer

Bag of meds

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
