hvsg 2 Posted February 28, 2014 So I had my sleeve done and I se one of the residents at discharge. They said I was to take actual pills I am taking pain med, gallstone med, nexium, Vitamin, stool softener, and zofran. I went home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, and have only managed the zofran (which melts under my tongue) and the pain med, which feels like it gets "stuck." Did anyone else come home on pills too?
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted February 28, 2014 I came home from surgery on pills, as long as they weren't giant horse sized pills (such as a standard Multivitamin or Calcium supplement). I didn't have any problems with them though.
ImReadyforThis 14 Posted February 28, 2014 Can you try cutting them to make the smaller? You can also crush them, but in my experience cutting them makes it more palatable.
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted February 28, 2014 I needed one dose of liquid pain med at home. Bought a liquid multivitamin. All other pills I swallow without a problem. Seems like it was a psychological worry about swallowing at first, but swallowing pills has not been a problem. I take 5 pills morning and 5 at night, including a probiotic and Iron tablet I chew. Go slowly with the pills but get them down. The more you do it the less you worry about it. Good luck to you!
karinbuck 42 Posted February 28, 2014 I'm very interested to see the answer to this. My surgery is march 20th. I'm diabetic and on a large dose of metformin. Which is currently 4 large pills a day. I have yet to ask my doc about this but what is the feeling on liquid Multivitamins? 1 LindafromFlorida reacted to this
hvsg 2 Posted February 28, 2014 Thanks so much. Most of the then, besides the pain pill and the gallbladder pill are fine, not too big. The gallbladder pill is the largest (horse pill) and they told me not to open it to put it in anything. Seriously I am afraid of it. I felt rough swallowing the pain pills, I don't know how to that is even going to work. I did put a call in to the office. Hopefully they will call soon. Thanks so much guys. I am feeling slightly overwhelmed. Can't wait to figure this process out.

They took me off Metformin at the hospital following surgery and two months post surgery my A1C has dropped to 5 so no more for me! I found Source of Life Liquid Gold multivitam, and take two Tbsp. a day. I wrote down every ingredient in this liquid Vitamin and Bariatric Advantage awful chalky Vitamin, and the liquid vitamin impressed me more with the content of the Vitamins. The compound pharmacist said this vitamin was the best. So many options. Keep reading and comparing. You can always change these out.
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted February 28, 2014 I did liquid multivitamins, Calcium, and Iron for four weeks after surgery and did great on them. I'm considering going back to the liquid iron as it is supposed to be more bioavailable and it seems to have been easier on my digestive tract.
