Non ulcer dyspepsia?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have this? Basically, it's a stomach condition related to GERD and IBS, which mimics the symptoms of an ulcer when there's no ulcer present. I have had this and GERD for over 20 years. I've had every test for it. Every time I'm told there is nothing wrong. My heartburn and related GERD symptoms have been gone since I got my lapband. This other flare up has thrown me for a loop. I just assumed that my surgery was going to cure that, too. For me, a normal flare up can go anywhere from a week or several weeks. There is no cure. I drink a lot of Gaviscon, and just wait for it to clear up. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had this before and then after they were banded.

Dyspepsia is nothing more then indigestion. Most people that have it also have gastritis. The band unfortunately can not get rid of gastritis because its in the portion of the stomach that is below the band. Try eating bland foods for a week or so. You may want to go to a gastro that can give you a prescription for something to calm down your stomach.

In the past, my doctor has put me on Prevacid for a month or two. It is very painful, and doesn't feel like indigestion. I get a gnawing, drilling pain from it that lasts a while before I get any relief. I also get nauseous from it, and sometimes the only thing the relieves the pain is throwing up. This concerns me, because I'm scared to do that with the band. Fortunately, the stuff I took earlier finally worked, and I'm okay for now. I was just wondering if anyone else had this or something similar.

again please call your doctor. there are medications that will help with the nausea, ondanstetron for one. and getting on Prilosec, or Pepcid might help you to not have a recurrence. you don't want to throw up from your stomach. not good for the band. so you need some help from your surgeon. good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
