Any ideas? Everything makes me sick!

Recommended Posts

I have been nauseated since my surgery jan. 16, I feel like I have a rock stuck at the base of my throat and another inside my stomach. I don't know what to do. If I eat or drink anything, even Water, it hurts. They have done a ct scan and everything looks fine internally. Does anybody have any ideas?

Tell your surgeon you're still having this issue. Sometimes it takes more looking to find out what is wrong. Maybe you need to be scoped.

Other than that, try warm liquids and warm mushy foods. Perhaps the warmth will help sooth your throat and pouch and make it easier. Also, when I was that new if I didn't take very very small sips and bites, I haf significant pain. That has gone away as I healed.

Eat slower and smaller bites. and talk to your dr about maybe taking some omeprazole(prevacid). It helped me..

and start your day with a warm drink. Also, try flavoring your Water with something.. anthing except plain. I am 20 weeks out and still cant tolerate plain water yet. You'll get there.. hang tough!

I agree. I have to have warm drinks. I'm ten years out and still put my Protein in my coffee every morning. Like Creamer. When I went from putting cold liquid Protein into my hot coffee to the powdered creamer, I actually had to figure out just how much cold Water I had to add or my Protein would curdle because my coffee was too hot and it is made from milk after all. *laughing* I would get chunky protein peices which was nasty. Anyway, drink warm liquids slowly and it helps alot. I still do hot tea, hot lemon Water, warm protein, etc. Hope this helps.

Update... 1 year out and things are much better. It was an ulcer followed by 2 more. I switched to only drinking milk for almost 6 months and now I can drink Vitamin waters. Thank you ladies.

I had this problem. Even the smell of food made me gag and throw up (or what passes for throwing up). Was put in hospital and everything checked out ok. My surgeon told me it was mental and to force myself to eat. I did and gradually got over it. Did find that very small bites helped. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
