Just got the lap band this morning and my left shoulder is killiing me is this normal?

Yes it is normal. The vagus nerve runs from your stomach to your left shoulder and up to your brain. It will hurt now and may hurt for a year. That is your signal once you heal that you are full. Take heed to that pain. It may hurt until you get a fill.

Oh yes ma'am unfortunately/fortunately it's completely normal!:-) It's gas pains. What helped me out ALOT was gas-x strips, my heating pad placed on the worst area and then walk, walk, walk, that gets that trapped air in your body moving around so that it can be released. When I say walk I mean walk around th living room walk down the hallway nothing too crazy but you need to get up and move around as much as possible so that the pain goes away.

Congrats, on the start of your new life!!

Really? I didn't know that! My nurses and doctors told me it was gas pains, very interesting I learned something new. I wondered why I would feel that occasionaly when I was finished eating but had no idea it was a signal that I was full I thought it was just gas pains. Thanks so much!

Yes! I was banded 4 weeks ago, and I had terrible shoulder pain for the first 6 days. It felt like someone was knifing me! It's gone now, but I still get little twinges of it sometimes after I eat.

Operative gas does not stay in your body more then 48 hours. It should disperse by then. Once the gas is gone it is your vagus nerve hurting. Mine hurt for a year but it was my way of knowing that I was full. Sometimes now I get that pain but only once in a while.

Yes, they should have. That was the only pain I had. Mine stopped hurting me by the end of the second day. Good Luck!

yes the shoulder pain is a part of the post op deal. I used a heating pad and walked as much as possible. I occasionally get the shoulder pain when I overeat . it's a reminder for me to back off.. I did take Tylenol and it seemed to help.

Mine didn't arrive for a few days then whammo, but the shoulder pain left again just as quickly (2 days of soreness -- heating pad helped).....congratulations on having your surgery and all that is ahead.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
