Excited to eat finally! What is the amount of mashed potatoes I should have? I'm planning on eating some mashed and flounder but don't want to overdue it.

Mashed potatoes (or any potatoes) are not allowed on my diet. I have to focus on high Protein, low carb. But given that, I can only eat 1 - 2 ounces, especially if I get the dense Protein first.

You will get varying answers to your question because every surgeon doesn't have the same rules and/or guidelines. What does your surgeon or NUT advise?

I will say the I was not allowed flounder during my puree stage. I stuck mainly with Protein shakes, strained cream Soups and Water. I chose not to have slider foods like mashed potatoes because it's a slippery slope for me.

I agree with lsuchick. If you eat your Protein first there's really no room for anything else at this stage.

my NUT wants me to try and get 1 cup of pureed in daily divided into 1/4 c servings--initially, I could only get 2-3 small spoonfuls down. I am on pureed for a week and then I think it is soft foods. She said if I wanted, this was the time to have some mashed potatoes but I declined, as I have essentially been off white carbs for 6 weeks. I usually eat refried Beans mixed with enchilada sauce and a bit of melted cheese, there is a ricotta bake recipe that is TODIEFOR...website is here:

Good luck and check in with your nutritionist if you have concerns or questions-that is what they are there for :D good luck!

I agree about the potatoes.....I haven't even had surgery yet, but my plan is all high Protein options. Not potatoes or applesauce because I want to be as successful as possible and carbs are going to be a huge no no for a long while. That being said.....I can imagine that Protein shakes have to get really old after a certain amount of time, so I don't think a spoonful or two will be too bad...but that's a slippery slope also!!

Sorry if that wasn't helpful at all!!! Im all over the place!!! :D :D :D

I can have mashed potatoes on pureeds, I can only eat 1-2 bites. You will catch a lot of hell on here if u talk about eating potatoes :) but that's ok. If your NUT says its ok, then go for it. I enjoyed my first couple bites but caught all kinds of grief on here when I posted my excitement. Personally, I won't be eating them frequently but that's my personal opinion, not my surgeons etc. good luck and enjoy :)

I ate my potatoes and flounder. I measured out 1/2 cup of each. Mashed up my fish with some broth ate that first slowly. Then ate some potatoes but could only eat 1/2 if the 1/2 cup I had served myself. I feel satisfied but not overly stuffed. Now waiting 1/2 hour to drink!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
