APRIL Bandits' Exercise Challenge!

Recommended Posts

I am so excited to change up my exercise this month!!! Weather is getting better, and there is so much more to do! I can ride - both the horse or the bike! (Ladies it is taking all my control not to make a naughty comment here about my DH!!!) We will be able to take the boat out soon, and swim at the lake, and I get time in pushing the grandbabies in the swing, jumping on the trampoline, chasing bubbles. Last year I entered a hula hoop contest with my little niece! The winter has worn me down. I am i a rut, with the eliptical trainer, or the treadmill. I want to bust down the doors and get outside!!! Use some energy mowing, and planting!

My year will be up the end of the month. I will have made it to the 90 pound mark. I have been sitting on an even 200 for a couple of days now. As soon as I see 199 for a couple of days I'll change my ticker!!!

I too have been eating poorly. Well maybe not exactly poorly---but a bite of this here and there, and not watching it very closely. But that is how I want to eat!!! I am hoping I can get the rest of the weight off with upping my exercise---or at least get some more of it off. I am so happy with life in general right now, I am not especially concerned with it!!! I know 200 is far from thin....but at 5'9", it is nothing like I was!! So I am just celebrating! I bought an Easter outfit the other day---and I began with a size 18 dress---because I am so top heavy---I ended up with a 14, and I have plenty of room in it!

This next year for you 07 banders is going to be such a thrill!

I should have worked harder to finish the challenge this month---but as I say I have been complacent!!! I will start the month out right tomorrow (no Fooling!) I am herding---so will be in the saddle for several hours. Talk about core exercise!!!

Everyone take care---and lets Celebrate APRIL!!!!!!!!!

Kat

I cooked a pot roast, too. My family gobbled up French dip sandwiches while I chopped the meat up very fine and enjoyed it au jus!

Julie, we are all thinking of you! You'll be back to work out before you know it. This initial recovery must be miserable, but once you start feeling stronger and are out of intense pain, your healing will speed dramatically. Hang tough, just like you have, running your miles chanting, "199, 199, 199!" When the pain is intense, count, breathe, put yourself in a beautiful place, and know that we are here supporting you.

Bluehill, when you are up to it, post and let us know what is up. I hope you can join us.

Susan, are you in?

Amourette!!! Hey DOLL! You can definitely squeeze this into your schedule.

Eficka, have you heard from her?

Come on, gals, let's rock it!

Molly: Not with this Pope! He's super conservative... with Pope JP... well I think he'd like my embracing my original being, sans clothing. He, he. Pot roast is ALWAYS good the second day. I'm on my Farewell Tour de food and tonight I had nachos. Nachos do not hold over very well. But Pot Roast.. mmm... sounds tasty. Hope you feel better!

I failed Team April. =( I didn't go bike riding. My car died and my whole evening plan when ca-fooey (I'm from California so it has to be CA-fooey... other states it's just fooey) So maybe tomorrow I will get on my bicycle. I know I'm procrastinating...I just look like an idiot... a fat idiot when I exercise. Oh well, idiocy here I come!! Good night all.

Sheila, that is funny! Also, good job on dropping 30 already.

Did you see "Napoleon Dynamite"? Ya know how he always says "idiot."? I have this very bad habit of calling myself an idiot. I sound just like Napoleon. It is part of my problem. If I did that to another person, it would be cruel. It makes me feel better that I am not the only person who chews themself out. So now I can say to you, NO!! You are NOT a f_ _ idiot!!! (I don't like the 'f' word either).

You can tryi it again tomorrow, when it will actually count toward your goal. ELEVEN days!!

I ran 4 1/2 miles! Half of it was uphill, so my time was not great. Gotta get back to the track and work on speed for the 5K.

Boo I am a professional chew-er-out-er of myself! I love Napoleon Dynomite... it was so silly. You RAN? Uphill?? That's amazing. Boo just for a moment remember that you can RUN 5 km straight without dying!!! That in itself is a huge accomplishment by my book!

As for the 30 pounds, I went to a summer weight loss program for college women. Ironically I didn't even stay the whole time. But I did lose 40 pounds...10 of which I've gained back. I'm looking forward to seeing those numbers MOVE!!

Julie, we all miss you! You are such an inspiration to all. I hope that you're up and about soon. I'm sending positive vibes toward you right now!!

Kat, please don't think this is a stupid question but what are you herding? Horses, cows, sheep? I live out in cow country right now. They, the cows, pretty much stay in the same place all year round.

Final thought: I just heard the geese flying over my house! That means officially that spring is here and summer is just around the corner! Woo hoo!

Well, I'm back!

The surgery went very smoothly and losing 12 lbs in 5 hours is pretty cool. The recovery is pretty grueling and I can't really comment on whether it's "worth it" because I haven't looked in the mirror without the bandages yet. The nurses seemed pretty impressed ("Wow, Dr. Dyas, can you make my stomach look like that?" -- was my favorite), but I haven't had the courage yet. I want the drains to come out, then I might get up the nerve to look.

I was in the hospital for 2 nights because I had a fever that needed to resolve before they'd discharge me. I really wasn't in that much pain by the time I left the hospital and I haven't needed pain meds beyond Tylenol since I got home.

The worst part is not being able to do ANYTHING for yourself. Since I'm single and live alone, it's just such a departure for me to not be able to go to the bathroom unassisted (mostly just because I'm not super stable in walking -- once I get there I can take care of things myself), not be able to go anywhere, etc.) Mostly, I'm just sitting in a recliner and watching TV. I don't really even feel like reading yet, which is weird. I'm a reader.

My band has been a little mean to me as well (or maybe I was mean to it). I'm just accepting that I'm not ready for solid food yet. As long as I do liquids, I'm 100% ok. Mushies are only comfortable for very small amounts. Solids, yuck. I think it's probably all the swelling that I've got going on. It's like the extra tightness I get with my period (which I have too -- double whammy) times 10. Anyway, I figure since I'm good with liquids, I can give it a while to resolve on its own, or, I'll get an unfill.

Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks for keeping the challenge going. I'm going for the "tin foil" level myself this month. I think that's just great!

I'll check in soon. I wonder how much I weigh right now....

Oh, so relieved to hear from you Julie - yipee Julie's back! 12 pounds - oh my - just that in itself is worth the pain - right? You must be so excited it's behind you and only good and better days to come with an "oh my tummy"! Welcome back.

Welcome back Julie!! YEAH!!! I'm glad that someone else is joining the Tin Foil Challenge with me. Once the tubes come out, you'll feel much better (according to my friends and family who have had PS... I can only wish!) Take it easy. Watch feel-good movies.

Wishing you a speedy recovery,

Sheila

Yay Julie, I am so glad you're back! And doubly glad that surgery went well :girl_hug:

Tracey you can do it, the pre-op is difficult but I have faith in you :D

Sheila, I didn't excersise today either, it's Sunday! It's a day off in our house. I won't even cook on Sundays, open a can and heat it up is all.

And for the record I loved Napolean Dynamite!

After several attempts to eat yesterday, I wasn't able to get anything down with serious discomfort. So today I did total liquids till dinner at which time I managed to get 1/4 cup of chili in me before I was very full. Not sure why I am suddenly so tight but I am going to assume it's temporary and stick mainly to liquids.

Our Julie's back - yipee! So happy all went well and you're on the mend!

Terry, Tracy, Sheila - welcome to our exercise group - it's really so much more than that - just you wait and see.

Started off with a bang and went to NIA this morning - I've renewed my band vows and am off and running again - you newbies got me all excited with your enthusiasm - it's catching - got to work hard on that last 30 lbs!

Kat, I can't believe all you do - herding, chopping wood, chasing after babies!!! Tell Rick - Alan is doing great - we actually went to an afternoon symphony today (we have season tickets and Alan said let's go) then we went to dinner and then we went and visited some friends!!! It will just be 2 weeks tomorrow - so, I think he's doing just great.

Julie, Julie, Julie!!!

I'm practically giddy, I am so excited that you made it okay!

WOW!! 12 pounds...unreal! That means you are well into ONEDERLAND! In fact, you will probably weigh less than me in a few weeks. I told you that you would reach my goal before I would. Haha.

I think you are smart to stay on liquids. No sense risking a PB on top of the surgery. It makes sense that you would be tight. There must be swelling all around your abdomen. Ouchie! The drains are probably scary, huh?

Guess what? On the day of your surgery, I had a consultation for a TT. Don't give me any advice, yet. In six weeks, let's see how you feel and if it was worth it.

Thank you so much for posting. It must be difficult, but we all care so much about you and it brings a huge sigh of relief to know you are making it okay...and with NO Tylenol??? You are amazing!

Ladies, I hope I explained the rules correctly. You can SPLIT your workout into TWO sessions in the day. If it is too much to walk for 35 minutes straight, you can break it up until your stamina is built up.

Okay, APRIL BANDITS....BRING IT ON!!!

I am so excited! This week is Spring Break!!! That means that I can go to the local hs track anytime of the day!!! I am not dependant on my husband to escort me for safety during the day, it's pretty creepy in the dark hours of the early morning. I so want to go every day!!! I think I just might if my body will let me. I've got to get to work. I have a steep weight loss goal, I want to hit my century mark by summer. Once school starts again I am going to contact the school and see if I can get permission to use the track during school hours. It will only be a couple of months till summer break and it will be all mine for the summer :girl_hug:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
