Any nurses out there?

Recommended Posts

Just got my date. April 4th. I work 12 hour shifts, 3 days a week. I work on an inpatient unit in a hospital. How long were you other RNs out of work? I'm so excited.....

I was given 6 weeks and got it extended to 8. It took at least a month for me to not have pain. And another 2 to feel my energy level was back to normal. I am a labor and delivery nurse to I can get really physical. But at least 4. I work 12 hour shifts overnight. Hardest part was giving up my diet coke. I found a dub in a Water with caffeine.

Hello cejiogu, what's the Water w/ caffeine? I had to give up diet Pepsi my old favorite. My surgery is next Wed 3/5. I am a bit nervous. I have 12 days off after surgery. I sit at my job as a counselor. I hope that's enough.

I only took 3 wks off. 0 n/v and very minimal pain. I had a very good and easy recovery.

I took 2 weeks off - I had a very easy recovery with basically no pain and only a little nausea for the first few days but no vomiting. I do have more of a desk job though since I am a director of nursing research and practice. I felt as if I could have gone back after a week but had to wait for clearance from my surgeon.

The Water is avita water. You can get it at Walgreens or by the case from Amazon or Office Depot. I get 2 cases at a time from Office Depot and they have free shipping plus I can usually find a 10 dollar off 50 dollar code.

Interesting about the Water with caffeine. I was told NO caffeine at all preferably forever! When I asked why, I was told it is a stomach irritant and might cause ulcers.

Hello there. I'm a Nurse Informaticist. Although my position is not labor intensive I was approved for up to 6 weeks off and will probably be out for 3-4 weeks. I've completed my second week post-op today and will see how I'm feeling at the end of this week. My main issue is I'm terribly weak even though I'm taking in greater than 60 GMs Protein daily. However, I started puréed today and am surprisingly feeling better. Just want to feel a little more normal before returning. Best of luck to you!????

I took one week vacation because I haven't told anyone about my surgery. Counting the weekend I went back on post op day 10. No problems getting my fluids in!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
