Hey everyone. I'm new to this whole procedure, while I have not had the surgery yet, still in the class process, I'm really excited! I have too many medical issues that prevent me from losing weight and exercising so I've decided to get this procedure done. I think I'm one of the few people that are not a plus size from over eating. Try explaining that to a dr. They all think people are over weight from food!

If anyone has any advise to give id be more than happy to listen

You lost me. How do you get overweight....."not from food"

Recycled has a point, my dear.

I appreciate people can have a myriad of conditions which make them gain weight..

But if it's not related to food, how comes you're considering bariatric surgery?

Surely if it was something medical, they'd be giving you alternative therapies - not suggest having your stomach cut out?

That aside - welcome to the madness :D

Hi. I just got sleeved on Monday. Today is Wednesday and I'm heading home from Mexico a day early. I don't have real excruciating pain but I do have major discomfort. I wouldn't leave early but my BF talked me into it. My problem is that I'm hungry. They say your not supposed to feel hungry but I definitely feel hungry. Smelling all the foods in the airport are really getting to me. I can't eat or drink but I can smell. I hope all this goes away or I learn how to deal with it better.

Yes, welcome! But . . . I agree with the above comments, the sleeve will prevent you from overeating and will help you make better choices about food, especially at the outset. But if you currently don't overeat and are making good choices about food, I'm not sure what the sleeve has to offer you as a tool?

If the hospital gave you a PPI - I suggest you take it. The smells and how delicious they are, are all in your head. Trust me, you would not feel very groovy putting whatever it is in your mouth right now!

You're doing fine. Try and block your nasel passages, take your PPI, drink your Water, make your way home quickly and rest.

Rest well :)

I can't exercise because I have asthma and RA. My doctor and the surgeon suggest this is the best path for me as no other solutions have worked. I also have pcos and because of my age cannot get a hysterectomy. I have seen a bunch of obgyns and I'm getting age discrimination. I have my tubes tied but it does not help.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome causes weight gain, needing steroids for asthma as well. I have been on and off steroid medication for my asthma for 26 years. I'm now 30... I've had tests done and my thyroid came back negative.

It will help me lose the weight that I cannot lose. I cannot exercise. My RA and asthma prevent it. My doctors already agreed to do the surgery. When you have asthma and have been on and off steroids for 26 years you gain weight. It's not easy to lose the weight from that. Plus I have Polycystic ovarian syndrome which causes weight gain as well. I eat anywhere from 1-2 times a day. Is much harder to lose the weight because of medical problems than over eating. Especially when you have problems that prevent you from exercising

I too suffer from asthma(since 9wks old) and pcos (diagnosed in 2010) I have been on steroids since a infant and i too gained weight as a result. I didn't feel that i ate a lot, as everyone would say that i ate like a bird when i would eat around them. Fact of the matter was that i was a boredom eater, did these underlying conditions contribute to my weight gain, yes...but it was also me who was snacking at night, eating the sweets over food, laying down and not doing any healthy alternatives to assist myself along the way. I had to deal with some serious realities and get honest with myself in order to have a success surgery with long term results. I WAS AN OVER EATER, i was in denial about that for years. I am not judging or saying that you are being dishonest, but the two go hand in hand...the steroids cause you to eat, the weight is VERY hard to get off after long term use. the PCOS does cause abdominal weight gain... the antecedent that still caused the obesity is food. (you can eat only 1 or 2x's per day, but what are you eating and what is the caloric intake at meal time) It would be sad to see you go through the surgery in hopes that it will assist you in an area that you allege not to have an issue in. You are still asthmatic, so how will the surgery be beneficial if you will still need to take steroids even afterwards? With your RA, how will you exercise now after the surgery? I pray that everything works out well for you on this journey...this forum has awesome support, advise and insight. BEST WISHES :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
