Annoyed with waiting

Recommended Posts

I am annoyed and frustrated right now. I have my sleep study on the 5th and then meet the surgeon on the 18th and then I have to wait clear till May to see the endocrinologist before I can get a surgery date. Bear in mind I have to travel 2 hours to get to all these appointments. Except for the sleep study. I am wanting to get the surgeon and endocrinologist visits done on same day as they are in same office but I got told that won't be possible unless there is a cancellation.

I hate this wait it is driving me nuts, and I really want to do these appointments in same day to save on gas as well. Anyone have any suggestions to what I can do? Or advise on anything?

Thanks

Research, Research, Research !!! Try different brands & flavors if Protein Shakes, cut out carbonated drinks ( if you drink them) start working on taking small bites & chewing very well! Start walking ( if you're not already) increase your Protein, start taking your vitamins!! I started this process in September with no waiting period!! It has taken me all this time to complete all of the appts. and I still have 1 more appt. on Mon and one more Endoscopy before I can submit to the Insurance :/ I'm about to seriously go crazy!! But, I've done gobs of research and everything mentioned above! It has helped me feel like I'm still preparing oh!! And watch you tube videos!! I've been living vicariously thru these people!! Good Luck and I wish you a speedy process!!!

I'm one who doesn't mind bugging people, so if my appointments were too far out i would call every day to check for any cancellations. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to try? People cancel appointments all the time so you never know if you could get in sooner.

I promise it gets easier. I agree with what others say...do your research and get yourself fully prepared. I remember when I was still a minimum of six months out to ever finish the classes that I have to take. Once a little time passes, time just starts to fly. Now I look back and can't believe how much time has passed and how quick it seems like it has gone. I think we all get impatient...once we realize that this is the choice we want and the right decision for us, we want it to happen quick, and as frustrating as the wait can be, it's kind of a blessing. The time helps you to prepare both mentally and physically. Don't worry...surgery date will be here before you know it!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
