Hey Ya'll! I'm Allie. I'm 23 years old and a photographer in the Orlando area. I was sleeved in July of 2012 and I could not be happier with that decision. Over the course of the last year and a half I began looking at pictures of myself old and new. What a difference! Of course my physical appearance has changed greatly but what I found is that even more so my confidence began shining through me, so much so that my personality emerged in photos of me and you could tell I was no longer afraid of the world. So I began looking into the before and afters of some friends in my support groups and began to see that as a trend. After seeing the beauty of the transformations for each and every one of them I've decided to start a project. For this project I would like to follow some people on their journey from as early as possible until a year or maybe even further out. I would set up a time every few months to maybe come take a few snapshots and really try to capture them as a person and their journey through the images. I understand its a vulnerable position to be in but I believe this series really has a place in this world. To give us a voice. I don't think shows like my 600 lb life give a good perspective on what its like to undergo these transformations. Its hard emotionally and physically and there is nothing easy about what everyone seems to call the easy way out. I'd like to start locally in florida with this project if i can get any volunteers and then maybe branch out to other states. So i turned to this board to see if maybe anyone was interested in taking part. I'm really looking to tell our story from OUR perspective. I wish I had thought to do this from the beginning of my journey so I could have self portraits and lead by example in this series but unfortunately since I did not and am always behind the camera all i have are a few iPhone snapshots that won't really get me anywhere. So if anyone is interested or has any commentary to add please feel free to reply to this post!! hope to hear from you soon! and thanks for taking the time to read my mini novel :P :D

Hi Lex!

I didn't even know this board was here! I'm in the Tampa Bay Area. My surgery date isn't until July. I'm definitely interested in documenting my journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
