Struggling and depressed. Does it get better?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks out today. I'm not hungry during meals, but I am at the same time. I can't eat without nausea and i can't drink without nausea. I'm not getting fluids in because of it. I know I need to, but I get such an upset stomach that it's not worth it. I miss food. Not so much pigging out but I miss being able to eat comfortably, and I miss being able to drink Water when I'm thirsty. I know I'm still healing..but please tell me this gets better. I had lapband before I switched to the sleeve, and I don't know why this is hitting me so hard.

Did your doc prescribe any anti-nausea meds? And an acid reducer, something like Prilosec?

Hang in there! It will get better! I felt the same way. I was so used to drinking Water that I missed gulping it and I wanted steak so bad that I tried it too early.. I paid dearly for that mistake - intense pain to the point I thought I was dying!! Please work on getting your water in - that is a must! Take Gas-X if you feel like you are going to burp or slime it back up. If the nausea is getting worse, your doctor can prescribe suppositories to help with that. Don't get dehydrated! Don't be scared or hesitant to contact your doctor! They don't know you are having issues unless you tell them. Hope you feel better soon!!!

I just can't help but worry that nausea this far out is a bad sign. I see people who are the same surgery date as me doing just fine. I picked up some pedialyte from Walmart, so I can at least get some electrolytes in. Gatorade is too surgery right now and doesn't sit too well in my new tummy. Haha

I am in my 5th month and I still take Prilosec 2x daily. I've had very little nausea so I feel I've been lucky.

Good advise about staying hydrated. I've heard people like the G2. I've found that warm goes down better than cold. Hot tea and diet hot chocolate work great for me.

I had the same problem and it does get better. sugar free popsicles helped. Freeze your liquids and then lick / suck on them. That way you get the Fluid but don't get the feeling / act of consumption.

I had similar problems my first days out. It took awhile for the gas in my tummy to go away from surgery. I would drink and feel the bubbles inside, very weird feeling. In the first few days I just sipped as much as possible. I slept a lot too, so I didn't go through much liquids.

I did notice that Popsicles don't cause any upset. I had one last night and it was such a relief to have it not cause nausea.

I didn't have a chance to read the entire post, so forgive me if I repeat any information. First, it is not unusual to still feel the way you are three weeks out. When you said you have read others who are doing well with the same surgery date, well there are probably as many feeling as you do too. Most people don't want to post the negatives, only the positives. I am just past four months and let me tell you, relish this time. Soon enough you will be healed and it becomes more about you and your choices than what your body allows. Sure, you have restriction. But it is also entirely possible you will be able to eat many of the foods you once did, (in smaller quantities of course) even ones you should not eat. I have only had one episode of severe "slimies" since surgery, and that was just the other day. I ate a slider food and it made me sick. First time sick, not first slider. I was actually happy my body finally decided to reject somthing instead of allowing everything. But sorry, I am on a tanget. Make sure to get your fluids. Water is essential at this point. I have read and was confirmed by my NUT that the moleculor make up of Water is sometimes difficult for the new tummy to handle. Change that make up and you may find getting in Fluid is easier. To this very day I cannot stomach a lot of plain H2O, but add a little Crystal Lite and no problems what so ever... If you haven't tried this already I encourage you to. The journey is not easy, period. It is a lot of emotions besides the physical. But I will try to encourage you the best I can by saying the physical does indeed get easier!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
