Pill sizes...what is OK?

Recommended Posts

The hospital sent me home saying not to take any pill that was larger than a pencil eraser. Is that forever or just initially?

I see a lot of you are taking Vit E and Vit D and various other things - how are you getting them in.

Also, what do you do when you get a cold - can you take something like a Dayquil pill or does everything have to come in liquids? How about tylenol?

(I hate liquids, BTW).

Just curious.

I was sleeved this past Monday-Feb 24 ( day 3). My Dr. put me back on my normal meds immediately, the nurse brought me 4 pills the morning of day 2 in the hospital. . I have had no trouble with any of my pills. Take them one at a time with sips of Water. He did say that if the pills were big simply cut them in half. I have had a surprisingly easy time so far.

I'm almost 9 months out, and I'm taking pills just fine. My Vitamin, Calcium, and fish oil are all pretty large, but as long as I pace them out over a couple minutes and drink enough with them they go down just fine.

I took my normal meds immediately, too. All surgeons are different, but im assuming its only for a few days or a week or so while the swellig goes down

I'm not allowed to swallow pills until 4 weeks out. I have to crush and put in unsweetened applesauce.....yuk.

It is wild to me how every surgeon is so very different, from their pre-op diet to after surgery protocol. I guess I would follow what you surgeon says to do. I'm only 3 days out and having very little trouble with anything.

I never had any problems with swallowing pills. I did have a bit of a learning curve regarding when to take them - some on an empty stomach, others needed food with them, etc.

I went home taking my Rx pills. I, too, was advised to cut them in half if I felt they were too big. On my own, I decided to take a Multi-Vitamin and Calcium in Gummy form. I'm in my 5th month and still doing that. Feels like a little sweet treat.

My doctor sent me home with liquid pain medicine which was awful. I found out very quickly that I could not stomach the liquid meds. My regular medicine is small enough that I have no trouble taking but the Biotin that I take is huge. I bought a pill slicer and cut that sucker up into 8 pieces. They have a dissolving tablet but it is only 1,000mg and I like taking the 10,000 mg.. I don't want to lose my hair. My Vitamins are all gummies including the Calcium supplement. I love that!! Hope this helps!

For some reason, that cracks me up. I wish I could sell you my bottle but, uh, no I won't, for many reasons...like wanting to keep my license and not be arrested. LOL.

But I can't take the liquid Lortab cuz it makes me itch from the codeine, so it's just sitting here. Oh well. But I can take Lortab pills.

The pain goes away, so all is well.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
