Counting Protein in Puree'd or Soft Food Stage

Recommended Posts

I'm probably overthinking this and not even sure if I can pose the question correctly but here goes nothing. During the liquid stage it's very easy to count Protein. I don't log anything until I've completed it and it's in easy to measure ounces.

During the next stage when it's time to puree how do you count if you make a portion, say 1/4 cup and then only can take a couple bites. The 1/4 cup I can figure, but what about the partials. How do folks do this? Or do you focus on the protein from liquid to make up the 60 or so grams and then guesstimate the samplings of other protein foods?

This probably sounds silly and yes probably thinking too hard about it, but I'd love to hear how others have handled this, veterans and newbies alike.

Thanks in advance! :D

Well you can guesstimate with amounts, or measure using your kitchen scale. If I made 3 tablespoons of pureed salmon, I would weigh it before eating. Then if I could only eat part of it, I would weigh the remainder and figure out how much I had eaten.

Yep, I'm with Bufflehead - I would weigh my food before I ate it. If it didn't finish most of it, I weighed it after to get an idea of how much I ate. If I ate most of it, I considered "good enough" and didn't obsess over it. (I will confess, I'm a datahead, so I want things to be precise.)

If you're using a measuring cup (for cottage cheese, for example) you can find your brand on My Fitness Pal and then estimate the amount .25 of a half cup, for example. That's what I do, although I am up to a half cup these days, no problem. :) Good luck!

Thank you. I appreciate the ideas. I haven't used the food scale much, relying more on measuring cups and such, but will have to give it a go.

For my first puree I did some tuna and the 2.5 ounce pouch pureed into a half cup so I dished half and was able to eat it, so the first tracking was easy at half a pouch. I will keep the ideas in mind for when things don't work out that smoothly.

My NUT today also suggested that if you eat off a portion all day, just count the whole at the end. That can work if I want to keep eating the same thing through the day...which I'm not sure i do. LOL, I know, picky picky.

Thanks

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
