Pain - not so much. Discomfort - yes.

My pain after my c-section was worse than the pain or discomfort I felt with VSG.

My surgeon was big on pain and nausea control - he gave me pain pills for when I got home. I only took four pills and it was so I could sleep, not necessarily for pain.

Feeling nervous is totally normal. You're going to do great! Best of luck to you.

Discomfort for a few hours. Really very manageable.

I remember right after surgery, I had this conversation with the nurse:

Me: 'I'm in pain.'

Nurse: 'What would you rate it on a 1-10 scale?'

Me: '4'

Nurse: 'You just had surgery. You're going to have some discomfort.'

Me: 'Oh.'

It was like 1/100th of childbirth.

I'll tell ya I'm a big baby when it comes to pain and I took the pain killers 2 every 4 hours until I ran out (about 4 days). On the fifth day I went back to school and still felt a bit of pain and discomfort so the Dr gave me another rx for pain meds. The pain wasn't extreme at all. The first two days suck but on the 2nd day I was able to shower witht the help of hubby. The gas pain was the worst out of all. The only way to release the CO2 is to move around because unlike regular digestive flatulance, our bodies have no way to just get rid of that gas unless we move around and excercise and metabolize it.

I was sleeved on 2/5/2014. And I still have a lot of pain. Especially on the left side where they did almost all the work. Some people heal fast and some people you never know until you have the surgery. It wasn't an easy surgery. My husband had to help me with everything.

I felt pain the first 2 days following the surgery but some was anesthesia and some was gas- I feel fine now. The surgery site is sore but not pain. Took pain meds 1 or 2 days and now no need. I was pleasantly surprised to discover I'd be feeling so good in only a few days.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
