concert 16 days after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping some of you guys can help me. I'm in the early stages. I have my first appt on March 24. I have already sent my insurance info into the Dr.s office. The lady there said that the total process should only take 4-6 Weeks then I would be ready for surgery. I'm wanting to have it on May 13 so my son will be out of school. I plan on taking off work until memorial day then working 1 day then off to go to a concert- one I have been waiting my whole life for (DOLLY PARTON!!!) I'm just worried I won't feel well enough to stand in line and stand thru the concert. What do you guys think?

I know everyone's insurance and your Surgeon's program are different, but my insurance required me to participate in a 6 month program of meeting with dietician, nutritionist, psychologist before my surgery could be scheduled. I began the process in July of 13 and had surgery in February of 14. It did take 4 to 6 weeks for my insurance to reply that they would cover, but I had to complete their requirements before surgery was scheduled. My insurance is a national company.

I think you should be ok. Just leave early and give yourself time to rest along the way. Also I would suggest an abdominal binder if you'll be standing for long periods. It sure helped me when I had to walk for long periods.

Have fun!!

Mine is humana. There are 2 other girls that work with me in different departments that have had it done recently. It really is that quick. One went for her first appt on Jan. 13 & is having surgery the last Thursday in March. My cousin's took 6 months because of her insurance.

Personally I think your will surprisingly feel well enough. It may not seem like it at this point, but I personally feel you will feel well enough! Especially since it's Dolly!!! ;-)

You should be ok. Worst case senario, you have to sit down and enjoy the music or leave before the end. GO!

I agree with others. I am 3 weeks today and honestly, there is absolutely NOTHING that feels like I had surgery. The first week is a lot of recovery and you will know you had surgery, but by 7-10 days out, you'll feel pretty normal outside of the liquid diet and possibly tiring easier. Get lots of rest intentionally before hand. But barring any abnormal issues, you should be fine. Good luck!

Go for it! I drove myself to the gym and walked for 30 minutes on the treadmill 2 days after getting out of the hospital. One week after surgery I was back at work full time, and I am a health care provider who stands up 100% of my day. Other than a bit of soreness when I moved the wrong way, I really felt pretty decent. I told my PA at my 1 week and 1 month post-op visits that my energy levels were perfectly fine. Only after 2 months post-op did I realize my energy levels would only go UP from that point on! Yea!

I bought tickets to see Springsteen on April 16th. My surgery is March 13th. I knew it was a gamble but it's BRUCE! Good idea about the binder. I bought general admission tickets. Standing. For like 5 hours? I must be crazy. Am I crazy to think I can stand that long one month post op? Hope so, because I'd be heart broken if I had to sell them.

Go to the concert, just be sure to scout out a place somewhere to sit in case you need to have a break. Also, if you let the venue know you recently had surgury they may possibly make an ada or medical seat available to you. Not all venues can or will do this, but go to will call before heading in and ask first. Sometimes the seating is good and you will be able to have a seat when you need to. Although the venue may need those areas for other guests. Doesn't hurt to ask however!!

You should be fine. I had a pretty rough recovery and at 2 weeks post op I traveled a few states away by bus to see a friend (involved quite a bit of walking around bus stations etc) I was totally fine. I'm 95 percent sure you should be feeling fine at that point but of course take it easy, carry a big thing of Water if can and pace yourself. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
