When does the pain completely go away?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I'm 12 days post op and still having some discomfort...enough to still need pain meds. Are there any suggestions on pain management or anything? When does the pain completely go away?

I'm really sorry to hear this. I really had almost no pain in my incisions. The only pain I had was my shoulder and back from the air in my diaghram. I know my doctor told me that the more I walked, the less pain I would have though. Try walking, try some tylenol or ibuprofen. If all else fails, call your doctor's office. Maybe there's some small issue they can help you resolve.

I was in pain like you. I am amazed when others have little or no pain. I was on pain killer for 2 weeks. Then switched to Tylenol liquid for about 2 weeks. Hang in there it will get better like they all say!

Only the largest incision point really bothered me. It hurt to lay in that side. Not excrutiating but sore like a bad bruise. What was worse was the stomach spasms. Whenever i would swallow, i would get what felt like gas rising up in my stomach then jt would sit in my chest and burn for 10 - 30 seconds, then go away. This started the day after my operation and lasted about two weeks.

I am now two months out and the worse i get it a little twinge around my largest incision scar. I would say i was feeling little to no pain around my third week.

Im so sorry youre having so much pain...have you told your doctor? Im 22 days out am feeling great, but I never had any pain really in my incisions...mine was all shoulder and gas pain that resolved before I was released from the hospital. I think it would be a good idea to talk to your doctor....better safe than sorry

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
