Congrats to all of you for getting this far and getting approved, or at least submitted for approval.

I thought waiting to get through my 6 months of doctor visits, Nut and counseling would be the worst, and then I thought waiting for approval would be the worst but UHC approved in a week but I couldn't get my final doctor appt. right away and had to wait until tomorrow to get in for final surgery approval and this has been the worst wait of all. Tomorrow I get my surgery date and I'm hoping it will be no later than end of May or first week of June since our Hawaii vacation is booked for Aug 20 and I want to be fully healed and eating more than mush by then. I just worry that my surgeon will be so booked with bariatric and general surgeries that I won't get in for a couple of months. Fingers crossed!

I've had a totally different experience with UHC. I have found Bariatric Resources not to be helpful. They refused me even though I met all the criteria.

I didn't have to deal with the bariatric resources much. I had to enroll in their program, but i wasn't required to have nurse consults with them. The only time i talked to a nurse from there she told me that i should get the lap band cause it doesn't have malabsorption issues. I have seriously out of control diabetes, and i was approved for the rny. I dont really think that nurse new what she was talking about.

Cybergirl do u have UHC mdipa federal? I'm so worried that they may deny me but I'm praying very hard that they approve me. Did u meet the crierias? I am at 42 BMi. Have u appealed their decision? I would. That's aweful. Don't give up. If u need it keep bugging them.

jtickle, I don't think they will fund lap bands anymore--so no the nurse didn't know what she was talking about.

soniaj,

I don't have the federal UHC. I work for a large private company--Georgia-Pacific. UHC administers the program. I met all the requirements--at least the ones I know about :)

Thanks

Sandy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
