So my surgery is in 9 hours and I'm sitting in my room crying like a little baby. I have severe panic disorder and when I had lapband surgery 6 years ago (first ever surgery) I felt like I was suffocating when they put the oxygen mask on. I tried to jump off the surgery table then in 10 seconds I was out but I swear I have post traumatic stress cuz now all I can think of is going in there tomorrow and that suffocating feeling. I feel like I fought so hard to get this surgery now I'm being a big cry baby

Splat darling it's going to be ok! Most people get very nervous when the big day comes even those without panic disorders. I am lifting u up in prayer. This is something u have wanted and fought hard for. So happy for u make sure u keep us posted. Sending skinny vibes ur way. Btw Sandee is on these boards idk if u know her but her surgery is also today.

A "crybaby" is definitely not the word you should be using. Surgery is a scary thing, but you went through it once. & are strong enough to get another surgery done. You should give yourself an attagirl. I have panic attacks too. So just listen some relaxing music, breath slowly, and think of the brighter things that could happen when they put that mask on. Good luck! ^^

You should have a chance to meet and talk with the anesthesiologist before your surgery. Explain that having an oxygen mask makes you feel panicky and that it makes you want to flee or struggle. The doctor should be able to help with that, either by making sure you are completely relaxed with Versed (anti-anxiety drug) or by just knocking you out and putting the oxygen on after. That's what they did with me. Just explain your situation and ask for help and they will help you. Best wishes! :)

I dont think you are a cry baby by any stretch of the imagination, explain to the anesthesiologist and they should be able to simply leave the mask off until you are asleep, they did that with me once before as I started to panic at having the mask on my face.

Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you get on, my surgery date is next monday.

I'm sure you will be fine:) This is my first surgery ever too and I am terrified. The good thing is that you have already undergone surgery before so that worry is out of the way. Just think about how exciting it's going to be when you wake up and are able to start your new life! Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the prayers everyone!!! The anesthesiologist was Amazing!!! No mask and I didn't even realize when I fell asleep till they woke me up. Nausea was bad for a while but they gave me zofran and reglan combo and I just took a lap around the nurses station. Looking forward to feeling better tomorrow

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
