How often did you call insurance?

Recommended Posts

I got a call today from my insurance nurse educator. She asked me some questions about my physicians follow up support program. She also gave me my reference number and the phone number to call to check the status of my paperwork. So I called and learned that they have everything, but it is still being reviewed. I did learn March 21st is the expected date of surgery they were given. So curious how often I should call to check my status. I want to call everyday, but don't want to be too over the top.

ZERO.,, My bariatric center did this all for me. I would check with the people your hiring to take care of your procedure. They must have a business administrator.

I called twice a week until they told me I was denied. When I reapplied, I didn't call them at all, then one day I get a call from my surgeon's office telling me I was approved. Surgery date tomorrow...actually in about 7 hours from now!!!

My paperwork was submitted on a Thursday, I called Friday & on Monday, I was told someone would review it Wednesday afternoon (they have 7 days, I was told). I called Wednesday and they said by Thursday afternoon . I called Thursday afternoon, no decision urrrg! I called first thing Friday morn.......approved! Through the whole waiting game I couldn't eat/sleep or concentrate! I was a mess! I lost most of my weight waiting on the approval (mind you I had to go through six months of insurance requirements)! As soon as I got the approval I called the scheduler. She was happy I called her (she was swamped). I got the last appointment for January. Otherwise I would have had to wait until March! Moral of the story....do whatever makes you comfortable!

Why were you denied the first time?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
