I am 3 weeks post op today, I had my sleeve on 2/3/14 and I just left my doctors office from a follow up appointment. He basically accused me of not following my post op diet because I have only lost 13 pounds. He said that "wasn't very significant" and that I should try not to be "slipping up" on my diet. I have worked so hard to follow my pre and post op diet to a T!! I have not cheated even a little bit, I have done everything that he has told me to do. It makes me really not want to try so hard, or see him again. I guess I am just losing slower than others, but 13 pounds is 13 pounds and I WAS proud of myself until I left his office.

that's over 4 lbs a week! I think that's wonderful. Maybe he is used to seeing results if bypass patients? Don't let him get you down. We don't lose as fast initially as bypassers do because they are not only restrictive but they don't absorb all the calories. The good thing is that studies show we end up with very comparable results. You are rocking it, don't let anyone rain on u.

Don't give up. Keep up the good work. Maybe he was having a bad day and was just being a jerk?

Don't let your surgeon get you down...that is 13 lbs! No small feat, right?! I'm guessing because of your starting BMI which is very high, about the same as mine, and I'm expected to lose faster at the beginning than someone who has a lower BMI. But don't sweat it (my dad always used to say that), the weight loss will keep going and one day your surgeon will be saying "wow!". Personally, I'd almost rather lose a little slower than "normal" just because that will give my skin a better chance and I won't draw as much attention as if I'm losing massive amounts right off the bat. Just my thoughts...

That's about all I lost the first month and only ten lbs a month after that. Don't despair, it will come off and you did great.

at 4 pounds/week, my NUT would have been very satisfied--my surgeon said this is a time of healing, you will have Fluid shifts and weight will fluctuate--the key is slowly working towards the solid food while the sleeve heals evenly and completely...Please don't let this get you down-you are doing fine. Remember to hydrate and make sure you are walking every day, even if it is in 10 minute increments 3 times a day...be proud of your progress because it is progress!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
