Hi everyone, I am having surgery on 3/11/14. Just wondering about pain. After surgery will my insides hurt besides the gas pain or will the pain come from the incisions. Or all of the above. Hope this makes sense. :). Thanks everyone.

Everyone's experiences are different. I, for one, had virtually no pain. I filled my pain meds but never even opened the bottle. All I had was some mild discomfort that I was able to take liquid Tylenol for. My incisions were a little sore, but mainly only the one under my boob and the one on my waist line, and it was from the skin rubbing.

I had more muscle pain than anything else. The incision pain was very minimal. I didn't take the pain medicine for more than 2 or three days once I was home. I have to say much like having a baby, the pain you experience is gone and forgotten and well worth it!

I haven't had my new surgery yet but I did have the lapband surgery and had it removed and the only pain I had was from the gas when they fill your belly with air, the gas pains was the worst for me, and that wasn't even that bad? I am getting some of those gas strips before I go in for my surgery so I have them handy when I get home and right after the surgery. I also never used any pain meds after my first surgery? Well good luck!!!

We'll I had my surgery 2/18 and wish someone would have prepared me. I've had 2 children natural, and 4 other major surgeries, I thought I had a high tolerance to pain and usually quick recoveries......But this has been a challenge, my left side feels like a cannonball has gone through it! Now granted I'm 55 but other than overweight, healthy. I would rather prepared for the worst and not have it be as bad as I thought then not prepared at all...just saying.

Everyone's different. I'm 54 but RNY was a breeze for me. Little pain, quick recovery. By comparison my gallbladder removal three months ago was WAY worse, and neither compared to my rotator cuff surgery five years ago - that was the WORST!!! Hope you feel better. :-)

Deb, I am sorry to hear you had to go through alot of pain from it!!! I have had 2 children also and one was a c-section, and the other was a natural delivery but I had major problems with that delivery and both times I was up and walking around 6 hours after my deliveries. I slept and got right up? The same with my lapband surgery, as soon as I was done and they woke me up and let me sit up I was up and at em? I am however 36 not in my 50's but I am in hopes that I don't have any major pain from this because of my past surgeries? I hope you feel better!!! Good luck on your journey!!!

It's variable for everyone. My surgeon did a great job of making sure my pain was adequately controlled while inpatient. I was sure to hit my button before I would get up and do my strolls down the hall tho :) it honestly wasn't that bad. I took pain meds when I got home for a few days. Was more sore than anything but honestly not that bad. My c section was awful, gallbladder rough, and rny...breezy! I gotta say I think my dr was right about the get moving and walk and it would help. That and never miss any opportunity to blow out some of that gas!!!!

We'll I went to the dr today, apparently they cut and stitched a large muscle. While I was in the hospital I had the button too, but not at home , meds weren't working. I do walk as much as tolerated.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
