I've almost completely forgotten about my health...

Recommended Posts

So, when I started this journey I was 110lbs overweight and in poor health. My sleep apnea was really scary and I just ate crap and didn't care anymore. There were so many things I couldn't do because I was so fat. Mostly I had pretty much quit participating in life. Since vsg I have, thus far, lost 63.4 lbs, I have an (almost) great diet, sleep apnea is gone, and I can do pretty much anything I want. So, now that I've conquered the health demon and it's no longer an issue I seem to be more concerned with how I look. My focus has totally changed. In the beginning my health was my main focus and looking better was a nice side effect. Now looking better has become my main goal, and getting even healthier in the process has become a nice side effect. Head games. I have tons of them. Weird :)

Glad you're getting it done!

Happily, many of the things that make us look better are also good for us. For example, skin. A healthy diet with abundant hydration changes the color and consistency of skin, making one more attractive. Proper exercise and rest has a major effect on appearance. Once the foundation of healthy living is established, the cosmetics needed are much less.

I actually had the surgery for health reasons. Arthritis, stress fractures, High blood pressure, etc. Found out that I had apnea too. My arthritis is under control (will never go away), but I'm not longer limping or hurting like I was. I'm back dancing and enjoying life. Rebuilding my stamina and the muscles in my legs from not being able to exercise and side affects from a statin I took. My blood pressure is stabilizing at a good level and I take a home sleep study to hopefully go off my cpap tonight. I know that I'm not at goal, a good ways from it, but I've achieved all of the health benefits that I was seeking and looking for even more to come! How I'm looking is a great benefit too!

I think a lot of us make the decision for health reasons. One thing that is so awesome is that the health benefits of losing the weight start showing up pretty quickly. It's like our bodies breathe a sigh of relief. Then we can start focusing on other fun stuff in our lives.

You sound like me. i also did this for health reasons, and now that I'm healthy, I'm taking that for granted. I try to remember not to do that, because it's most certainly a gift, though I've worked hard for it. Now I'm all about how I look, lol. No, I'm not shallow ;)

I got this surgery because I had to. My knees are so much better-my back is so much better. The weight loss I have had so far has drastically impacted my level of joint pain--for the better!!!!!

I'm so very fortunate that I didn't have other comorbidities.

I must admit I am probably a pretty shallow person because I don't think health reasons would have been enough to get me to have the surgery and change my ways. I was a relatively healthy obese person but miserable with the way I looked. I got the surgery for vanity but there is no doubt it has improved my health too. For the first time I am looking forward to going on vacation with friends this summer. I am even considereing a 2 piece bathing suit. Who would have ever thunk it!

There is nothing wrong with wanting to look good. Feel good inside and out! It's all good and about living a happy, healthy lifestyle. Now the people that get multiple plastic surgeries have a problem.

Caring about your appearance is not necessarily a selfish thing. You show compassion to others by sparing their eyes from hard things to look at.

Walmart after midnight makes the point.

Seela,

Well done! You have worked so hard to get where you are. You deserve your success.

I know that my priority at the start was my health but once I had that under control, I suddenly noticed me :-))))) And it's fun.... as is life in general....

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
