Family plunged into panic mode :(

Recommended Posts

So my hubby told me to weigh myself on Saturday...And like an obedient girl I complied...Lost another 7 lbs and he went nuts..My daughter did the same and told me I have to start eating more. My trainer says I need to add another 500 calories to my daily diet.

I am bummed, you see I still have not reached my 170 lb goal. But they know that when the skin is removed that I will weigh 170 or less. I have no idea how to increase my calorie intake and have had some low blood sugar attacks after working out...

I don't want to stop losing because I am not at goal yet and can't seem to stop even if I wanted to. Now I have never experienced a stall because I hardly ever weigh myself..And intend to keep right on doing that until after plastics and then I will weigh every week.....I am getting the eye constantly now.

You need to figure this out they keep saying..Complex carbs and more meals during the day....I eat enough already I think......I still take a large shirt and size 12 pants..I know I am tall... but never ever thought that this would ever happen to me that they would start worrying about me being too small....WTH is that.....for almost my entire marriage I have been way over weight....How do you handle the reverse and if I am even too small....

So confused...damn it!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

So sorry you are going through this! I would suggest adding a Protein shake, a yogurt, a Protein Bar, or at least a handful of nuts to carry you through a workout. I am diabetic and I know first hand that low blood sugars are no fun. Even a glass of milk would be helpful--good carbs and Protein. Your body is telling you you need more. Maybe just 16 oz. of milk would be enough?

I know you're an expert at all this stuff, so I know you know all the answers, but what is your weight goal including plastics? Does your medical team agree? I know you will come through it all! :)

Rj I am so sorry you are going through all of this. You have set a goal and your want to reach it D**mit. And your family loves you so much they dont want to loose ya baby. so i would say add good Protein in like avocados, nuts and yougart or cottage cheese. Make sure to feed your body what it needs and it will reward you past your wildest dreams and goals too!

I have been eating a complex carb bar 1/2 before workout 1/2 after...But no one thinks that is enough calories..It is full of nuts and fruit and it seems to be helping the low blood sugar attacks.....

My team said they would be happy if I stopped now but gave me the go ahead to loss 5-15 more.....OI would like to be 150-170..Not there yet.

My daughter who is a nurse thinks that I have that covered when I have plastics....This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done....so confusing at times and it is hard to get my head around it all..you know!

Have you spoken with your doctor about this? I mean, I don't know your situation, but sometimes family doesn't really know what's best. As for the blood sugar drops, I'd talk to your endocrinologist as well. Maybe eating some fruit would help before your workout?

My family has been saying that I need to eat more too. They are glad I'm losing and want me to keep doing it but they think I'm going to be malnourished or something. My bariatric doc says things are going well and to keep doing what I'm doing. My family doesn't understand anything that is going on with my sleeve, so I take their concerns with a grain of salt, though I do like to acknowledge to them that I understand where they are coming from.

What do you think about it? Intuitively, do you agree with them? You and your doctor know what's best.

What do I think about it?....Confused a lot! One min. your grossly obese the next people are telling you to stop it right now....

I know they love me they have been with me throughout the entire experience. Crying with me, laughing with me, encouraging me and even studying the sleeve themselves.....

But I feel a few more lbs would not hurt and the team seemed to be good with it too... But that was until I lost some more weight. Don't know what they would think now..now that 7 more are gone.......Maybe they thought I would even out too and stop. I don't know.....Oh well...seems to be the topic of all the conversations in our home and on the phone with those two....dang it all! :(

RJ,

You have come so far, you know what to do, eating healthy with more calories is still eating healthy and that why we are all here. To get healthy! And to stay that way even after we reach goal.

You can do this, what would you say if you were the reader of this post and not the poster?

Saucy thing you..lol I would say to up the calories and bla, bla, bla..But I am not at goal yet!!!!!!!! I try to eat healthy 99% of the time...I think that's why I keep losing. But to do this next step seems unreal. Esp. when I look down and see this spare tire around my middle you know.....

Even though we go through a psych eval before surgery I don't think a lot of folks get what a BIG mental battle this all is! There are so many elements to it to, not exactly "one size fits all". (Pardon a very bad pun) You have been on such a ride since you had surgery, not a fun one either. This is just another time when there is brain/body disconnect. Do your best, that is exactly all you should have to do. No one is in your shoes but you, it is hard to understand and easy to judge. They do it out of love no doubt, but it is still your path to follow. Do what you can to make your doctors happy and to stay healthy, after that be sure to make yourself happy!

Does your family actually think that with the amount of food you are eating that you will starve? That would only happen if you are somehow unable to absorb any nutrients. Your doctors have not indicated that that is a problem for you.

You will level out.

Just like when we used to eat just a little more and eventually the weight caught up with our eating, your weight will eventually settle at the reduced level you are eating now. That is my unprofessional opinion.

Or is their problem aesthetics? They need to have patience until you are "done". You are a remake in progress.

Hang in there, my friend.

If I remember correctly RJ, you have only started working out with a trainer within the last few months. I think I remember you posting about starting with a trainer. Maybe this increase in calories burned with the exercise means that you should increase your calories a little too. You will still be changing your body (maybe getting rid of the spare tire you talked about) through the exercise but preventing your blood sugar drop. I have never had a problem increasing calories 2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter alone is 200 calories! You can just add that and its relatively healthy and Protein full. Good Luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
