3 weeks post op tomorrow... I can eat a good amount. Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys:

Just an example of what I ate today.

Breakfast was about 1/2 c. cottage cheese and peaches.

Lunch: one third of a crab and black bean/refried bean burrito... I added cheese, salsa and guacamole (burrito was baked in oven smothered in salsa so the tortilla was very soft)

Dinner: another third of that burrito

snack was greek yogurt

I feel like that is a lot.

I stop when I feel restriction but I was thinking I wouldn't be able to eat that much this soon.

Just wondering how other ppl are doing just a few weeks out. Thanks

I'm 7 weeks out and can't eat much at all. 3 shrimp is a meal for me. Or 3 crackers with chicken salad. I wish I could eat more. If I do I throw up. I feel like I waste so much food!

I tried shrimp already.... I ate about three as well, didn't sit well. I now take imitation crab meat and have to put it in my food processor. Anything I have to chew too much bothers..... makes sense... only 3 weeks out.

I am worried I won't lose as much because I can eat a decent amount already.

I wouldn't eat to feel full. I would eat the amount and weight your nut tells you to. I haven't seen anyone as advanced as you in the diet at your stage.

I'm not judging, but it just seems crazy that that would be your diet already. You may be stretching your stomach only 3 weeks out.

Do you have a dietician you can call?? I'm 3 weeks out, just had 2bites of mashed potatoes today and was satisfied

I am only eating 1/2 c of food at a time and I was instructed to advance my diet as tolerated. I stop eating the moment I feel the slightest bit of restriction and I eat healthy. Every meal is packed with Protein. Maybe I heal better than most? I don't know. I am wondering why I am able to tolerate these things so soon too. I do not get nauseous or vomit. Once in a while I experience a little heartburn but nothing long lasting or intolerable.

I want to know if anyone else can as well because I see a lot of ppl on pureed for a while. I am actually glad I feel this good and have lost 23 lbs since my pre op diet. I am not really hungry.

I'm not hungry... I eat to nourish my body. There is not enough nourishment in 2 bites of mashed potatoes. I eat plant Protein, legumes, lean Protein. I did not have this surgery to starve myself slim. I did it to guarantee I maintain Portion Control (that was my problem).

I was sleeved on 2/7. I'm on soft solid foods, but can incorporate flaky fish, Beans, some soft veggies, etc. So far I can eat with no issues. I don't know if I'd be able to eat that much, but am tolerating solids well. I'm tracking on MFP and getting in tons of Protein (one shake per day, plus food). I'm losing weight and feel great!

Wow, you are able to eat all that? I had my surgery 2/3/14 and am on the purée stage. Each stage last 2 weeks and went home on a full liquid diet.

when I had my one week follow up I told the P.A. I was tolerating full liquid. I told her what I was eating which was chunkier Soups put through a blender... she said

"that is more of a pureed diet" I asked if that was a problem and she said absolutely not... if my body is tolerating it I could even advance to soft... that is why at one week I was already eating a soft diet.

so you can't eat a 1/2 c at one sitting?

Wait.. I cut the burrito in thirds... I didn't eat half at one sitting... it was a third of a regular sized burrito with finely chopped crab meat, black and refried Beans, low fat cheese salsa and guacamole. So essentially I ate 2/3 of the burrito today... my bad.

Probably half of that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
