A Couple of Questions -Day 8

Recommended Posts

Is the port directly underneath the port incision? I seem to feel it a couple of inches below where my incision is. Is that where it's supposed to be?

I have superglue Patches over my incisions and they are starting to get annoying. At what point can you peel those suckers off?

I know some of these questions are probably specific to my doc, but these don't seem like important enough questions to bother anyone about.

I also food processed 1 spoonful of black Beans, 1 spoonful of rissoto and a cup of chicken broth then strained it. Is this okay on Day 8? I am getting tired of the sweetness of yogurt and shakes and regular chicken broth is losing its luster.

What is a reasonabl amount of liquid to drink at one time. I don't want to start off any bad habits, but it seems as though I can easily drink a cupful of liquid. I don't know if this would stretch the pouch or if it all just runs through.

I know this a kind of trivial issues, but I am curious.

You should never feel bad about calling the doc. That is why you pay them. My port was off-set, but I had swelling and scar tissue under my port incision. The question is doctor specific because there are many port sites and as many doctor opinions as to post-op care.

At day 8 are you on full liquids? My docs definition of full liquids was essentially anything you could get up a straw (within reason). Some people are still on Clear Liquids on day 8. If this is you, the strained Beans & rice is a no-no.

I understand the aversion to sweetness. I was in the same place. You shouldn't worry about stretching your pouch until you have a fill. Some people have been told to limit liquid meals, but I wasn't. It was about the healing, and getting enough Water.

My bandages were supposed to stay dry and on for 14 days or until they fell off on their own. Again, call the doc because if you run into trouble later on, you'll be glad for the relationship. Plus, the peace of mind is priceless.

Welcome, Brenda

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am supposed to be on clear, but I thought if I strained off anything remotely solid, it might be okay. I guess that's a cheat. I really don't want to cheat but the yogurt smoothies that I am allowed are good in the morning but just too sweet for night time. Im allowed to thicken up my liquids in 2 days, I guess I'll just have to hang on until then.

My port is a few inches above my incision. As for the dermabond(superglue) just wait until it falls off. It will probably take another week or two but you definitly want to make sure everything is healed up before you go picking it apart!

There are as many opinions on post op eating as there are surgeons....

I'm told that over my first week I can move through the food in stages as I feel ready to do so.... I'm day 9 today and I've had oatmeal for breakfast... Still feel stuffed to the gills!!

I am a nurse and am astonished by the lack of "standards of practice" for both pre-op and post-op diets when it comes to the lap banding. The differences in surgeon's advice is amazing and in another way, scary. Case in point: If you had acute pancreatitis, the standard of practice is nothing by mouth until your pancreatic enzymes reach a certain level...you wouldn't have a doctor tell you that eating food was OK...but in reading through these blogs you have some lap banders on liquids for a month post-op and others starting soft food on post-op day # 3 ! As a post-op nurse, that floors me !

My port is a few inches below the incision.

If I were you I would leave those Patches (superglue) right where they are, you don't want to damage your scar this soon while it's still so fresh.

As for food, you might notice while doing some research here at LBT that each doctor has a different post-op diet. In case of doubt, try to stick to what your doc told you.

best of luck with your new life as a bandster!

On the topic of your port location, my port tends to float. There are days it was under the scar and days it would be higher or lower. Now that I've had plastic surgery, my port is no where near my scar. I have my port scar below my waist area nd my prt is below my ribs. It's kind of weird when I feel it now because I'm thinking, "What the hell is that? Oh yeah, my port" The mind can sure play tricks on you!

Yes, it can be either right under the incision or just below. You are fine.

I have superglue Patches over my incisions and they are starting to get annoying. At what point can you peel those suckers off?

You can peel them off now. I think I waited about a week. You may bleed a little.

I know some of these questions are probably specific to my doc, but these don't seem like important enough questions to bother anyone about.

You should be okay as long as what you eat can be put through a straw. For example, creamy Soup.

What is a reasonabl amount of liquid to drink at one time. I don't want to start off any bad habits, but it seems as though I can easily drink a cupful of liquid. I don't know if this would stretch the pouch or if it all just runs through.

You will have to sip all day. I would say 2 or 3 gulps at once is okay.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
