It's different for everyone. I had very little pain but I do read other posts from people who suffer for up to 2- weeks. I think it does taper off as the day go by. Hot pads seem to help I'm told.

Don't know of anyone who didn't feel the same going into this. It's a normal emotion since everyone who's had surgery failed so many times before with diets.

I saw this quote the other day from Michael Jordan:

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

hi there..... i know exactly how you are feeling. Gas retention was the worst thing i had to experience. The best you can do it take some meds for gas... there are a lot around to choose from. Im post op now two years.. i had big problems for about six months... dont get concerned by this, everyone is different. i just wanted to say, get some meds, wait it out. Im now free of all gas retention. It took a while with me but its great. In the long term you will be free of the problem. You may have to accept this for a short time.. maybe even a few months... but like i said, get some anti gas and ride it out. It does leave you. Good luck.

You don't have an appetite because your stomach is swollen. Enjoy it now because your appetite will come back and weight loss may slow a little bit. You definitely have to walk walk walk around the house to get that gas out. The gas is CO2 pumped into your body, its not like normal digestive flatulance so it cant escape that way. The only way for your body to push out that CO2 is to use it up by moving around. Also, taking deep breaths and blowing out really hard can help a little bit.

Omg I wish I was better prepared for this... I've just tried about everything and couldn't stick with anything. This is kinda last resort for me. I'm terrified.

Idk if I can deal with it that long lol. Since you've been banded what's your biggest challenge? How long did it take u to get your appetite back?

Wendy is right (above).

Give it time; we were all terrified (of the unknown) in the beginning.

It gets way, way better.

And you will succeed ... It's very different than a usual diet ... And you're already off to a good start!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
