Sleeve About as Effective as Band!

Recommended Posts

Once you get to a certain point, all surgeries, except the DS, turn unto a calorie game. My sleeve was a great disappointment once I got to maintenance. Just got turned down for DS, so now I have to figure out how to lose 50 lbs with an inactive, misshapen sleeve.

ALL weight loss is a "calorie game". The DS just adds in a level of malabsorption. But no matter what, calories burned has to be more than calories absorbed in order to lose weight. (People can stop losing and even regain weight even with a bypass or DS if they don't eat right) Why do you say your sleeve is inactive and misshapen?

Not sure why you say you're at maintenance if you still want to lose 50 more pounds. Yes, it is a calorie game, and it is difficult, but it's not a magical solution--no weight loss surgery is. I can feel your frustration in your post, but I recommend seeing your nutritionist and maybe joining a support group where you can vent your frustrations and get first-hand advice. All is not lost!

All is definitely not lost. The sleeve will work for you as long as you work for it. As cryptic as this sounds, it boils down to eating foods that encourage restriction (eg lean protein), if you have trouble with a balanced diet, drinking plenty of Water and exercising. I think the strongest "free" benefit of the sleeve, and perhaps the other surges as well, is that it gives you a good 6-12 months to build a good foundation of eating and exercise strategies before it finishes healing and you are left to fly on your own. Once the sleeve heals, you will have the ability to work around it, but the key is not to. Simple as that.

I'm a Bandster and I'm 25 lbs from my goal(ok 35 :( ) and for me it's going to be calories in and calories burned from here on out. It's the staying away from the food distractions that seem to betray so many of us.

You'll just have to commit yourself from here on out as all these surgeries can be eaten around.

Calories in and out, not so much for everyone (See: "Good Calories, Bad Calories"). Metabolism has a great impact, and without the malabsorption, the Sleeve is a poor choice for the the insulin resistant pt.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
