Any one Regret Doing the band

Recommended Posts

Hi ALL,

I am new to this type of forum, however think this is great. I have scheduled surgery for 6/25 and I am really very nervous, about adjusting to not eating..... I was also wondering if anyone regreted having the surgery and why, all the online research I have done I have not found any negitive feedback... not that I want to it just seems that all were happy with their decision, and I wanted to hear from some who had a different view or opinion. Thanks so much for replys,

dales2,

All you can do is go w/your gut, what does it tell you?? I made the decision almost 2 yrs ago and it took that long fighting w/the ins co, but I finally won! I was banded this past Monday 3/26 and do not regret it. I understand what you are saying about giving up certain foods, but you have to think, I want to be healthier, able to play w/the kids, ride on a plane w/o having to ask some 89pd flight attendant to get me a seatbelt extender!!!! This is a commitment, but if you really want it, you can do it. Best of luck!

i was banded on march 1 07, yes there are times when I wounder did I do the right thing? I know I cant do this alone. I have tried and tried. But I feel differently each day, food can not be this important in my life. If I had a tooth ache and the tooth was bad I would tell the dr. to pull it. It is the same thing about the band I had to do it. Like it or not, kinder like tough love. In the long run it is the best for me. As for you well only you know the right thing. I dont like being FAT.....and I AM SURE YOU DONT TOO. GOOD LUCK

There is a great poll on the poll page that will answer your question from a large audience. There is also another thread and the most common regret is just that they didn't do it sooner. Good luck with your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
