New Jersey Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I do not know what size was used. I didnt know to ask before hand. Either way there really is nothing I can do about it now. I am getting more Water in if its with ice thats been shredded. I am feeling a lot better. Honestly i believe dr greco did a good job. No leaks. No infections. He may have made it small or it could have just been excess swelling. I noticed the difference when swallowing tiny ice chunks. It helps so much. I can get 4-6 Fluid ounces down in an hour comfortably with the ice mixture.

I've gotten most of the pre-op steps out of the way through Dr. Paragi in West Orange. I'm wondering if I should push back my surgery date. Is this something that can be handled during an academic semester? I thought I would do it I couple of days before spring break and have that time to recover. I'm not sure if that is a prudent move.

Don't wait. Its best to just get it done and over with. You will need a week or two healing but Dr. Paragi is great and you get minimum pain. I had 3 surgeries on the same day , sleeve, hernia repair and gall bladder removal.

Hi there!!! I'm from South Jersey (Gloucester County). Having my surgery done at U of Penn. I've got two more appointments left and going to group therapy on March 14th. I'm hoping to have the surgery before the summer. Anyone close by? I would love some support or a workout buddy.

Hi

Going through process of fulfilling appts. Have a date of 4/29/15 with Dr Strom at Mountainside in Montclair. 5'1" 220 BMI 41, no comorbidities but certainly they are in the wings ( family history). Pretty sure approval won't be a problem.

Have been researching for 2 years. Ok... So I'm getting jittery ( not nervous yet though I've never had any surgery)... I so wanna be successful at this but food has the pull that I'd imagine a drug would. Am a single mom of a 15 y.o outstanding son and I wanna get this right for him - and for me -before he's off to college.

Ok, I've rambled. Hello North Jerseyans ????.

R

Hello all. I had my sleeve and hhr repar on january 28th with dr greco at southern ocean medical center. Going into it I was only expecting a 2 night stay which turned into a 4 night stay. Too much swelling, couldnt get any liquids down. But as far as pain, they did give more than enough pain killers. I was walking a couple hours after surgery. The staff there and the nurses were so amazing. They went so far above and beyond for me. A very big thank you to them, they made the experience so pleasant for me. I did have lots of pressure when I sipped Water of those sponges on a stick at the hospital.

I have been home for 5 days and it was extremely hard to get liquid down and keep it there. It came up more than it stayed down. At least the first 4 days. I did find a diet orange icee did go down easier. And stay there. The protien shakes make me sick. Tried 6 different kinds. Immediately come right back up. Today is the first day I made a little headway with fluids. Finally. Today is day 8 going into day 9 post op. Finally water and iced water slowly sipped stays in. Woohoo. The last 7 days were very difficult and seemed like I would dehydrate.

Rustynail, I consulted with dr Greco but dr Reich is doing my surgery at SOCH 2/24. I am sorry to hear you have had such a hard time of it, glad you didn't have any serious dehydration issues!! Do you know what size bougie was used for your surgery?

What is a bougie?

A bougie is the tube the dr slides into your stomach to give a shape to staple your stomach up to and also what he snugs the excess stomach skin against. Then they begin stapling and cutting the stomach away. When he is done they remove the bougie from the stomach. It is there to insure that someones stomach after the procedure and once swelling goes down, is a specific size to begin with. They definately dont eye it up. Bougies come in a half dozen different sizes.

Hi everyone. I had my surgery on March 18th. at Centre State in Freehold. Feeling pretty good but can't shake this tired feeling. Been getting in about 48ozs of liquid and 50-60 grams of Protein a day. When I think back, it does seems crazy the hoops we had to jump through for ins coverage. I didn't think I would ever get approval. Every time I thought I was close, something else came up. Hang in there, it is so worth it in the end.

Wishing all of you just starting on this journey good luck and to all who have had their surgery a speedy recovery and continued success.

Hi NJ Sleevers! I'm 42yo F, 5'7, 250lbs, surgery set for 5/21 @AtlantiCare with Dr. Samir Patel. Has anyone else had their sleeve done there by him? I'm also looking for May NJ Sleevers to encourage one another through the journey. I'm keeping it pretty quiet, only my husband and mother know and are very supportive. I'm nervous about something going wrong. I'm healthy for the most part and only have slightly high cholesterol. I want this to be healthy but don't want to feel miserable and throw up food for the rest of my life. I worry so much about that. Is that normal?

Three weeks post-op and feeling pretty good. Still struggling to get all 64 oz of Water down each day but I'm doing good otherwise. I had a great set of nurses at Morristown Medical Center.

First support group meeting is next Tuesday at St. Barnabas Ambulatory Center.

Almost two weeks post op and feeling almost too good. No nausea, no pain, no restrictive feelings. Good during the day but hunger pains in the evening. Not head hunger but real growling hunger. Restarted prilosec because it may be acid. Trying to keep Protein up. Tired of planning food. SW 225, CW 208.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
