Gastric Sleeve and MRIs

Recommended Posts

Question for those of you who have had the surgery - does it affect your ability to have a MRI?

I ask this because I have a collapsed disc in my spine (among other morbid obesity issues), for which I need to have periodic MRIs done. Do the staples used in gastric sleeve interfere with an MRI and mean I could never have another one?

I asked the same question. I was told my sleeve would have no bearing on getting an MRI.

Staples are titanium and do not interfere with MRI. Same with most any other hardware you have surgically implanted (knees, hips, etc.). I've got a plate and four screws in my neck and it's fine for MRI, CT, airport security, etc.

I've had an MRI post surgery. I simply told the tech before hand, there was no problem.

I'm an MRI tech, so this was a really important question for me!!! The staples are titanium, and have no bearing on your MRI at all!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
