Question for those who have lost over 100 bs post sleeve

Recommended Posts

How did you do it? Did you workout? How often? What was your caloric intake while losing? I was sleeved on 2-3, I have 140 more pounds to lose. When I got home from the hospital, the weight seemed to fly off, I lost 40lbs like bam, I have no clue if this type of weight loss will continue or if I need to really work at it??? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Side note, I just started back to the gym, doing cardio for 50 mins, burning about 300 calories, I'm trying to keep my calories down to 600-635, I'm still on liquids and am staying on them for an additional 2 weeks, by my own decision. I don't want to screw up this awesome opportunity with the sleeve

I'm still losing. I just went over the 100 lbs lost mark earlier this week, 8 months from surgery (I lost 55 lbs prior to the sleeve on my insurance required diet and preop diet).

My calories gradually increased up to 800 calories. I keep calories under 800 unless I have a big exercise day, then I let myself go up to 850. I go through spurts of exercising a lot and then several weeks with hardly any exercise. For me, whether I exercise or not has absolutely no correlation to whether I lose weight or not. I try to exercise for my overall health, cardiovascular fitness, and bone health, not for weight loss. Exercise is more important in preventing osteoporosis than Calcium is, for example. I do a mix of light weights, walking, and low impact aerobics.

I track everything on MFP and stay within my program's guidelines. Calories as above, carbs under 60 (more is okay on heavy exercise days), minimum 75 grams Protein. No grains, no starchy vegetables, and no refined sugar. No grazing, defined meals and Snacks only. I know some people do well with moderation and not tracking what they eat, but for me the key has been following absolutely rigid rules and not wavering from them. I've still got a ways to go (probably 30 - 45 more lbs) and I intend to stick with this plan until it stops working.

Good luck to you!

Hmmm lets see with complete honesty…
I didn’t start working out till around 8 months out as I wasn’t medically allowed too.
Started off swimming once a week then I upgraded to 3 days a week in the gym doing about 30-40mins of weights and roughly 5-10mins cardio.
Haven’t been to the gym since nov though lol
Calories?
Couldn’t tell you I never have and never will count them.
I also don’t weight my food I use the same 2 plates and bowels and go by eye I did to start with but its also a habit I didn’t want to get into.
The whole not knowing how much food I can take by sight or going by my gut feeling when enough is enough is pointless to me that means never going out or away or eating at friends etc who carries a scale with them where ever they go?
I don’t drink Water.
Things that I do…
I have 3-4 Protein shakes a day throughout the day and night. It’s my Fluid in take plus tea I don’t drink anything else on a weekly basis but these really sometimes nothing other than these in a whole month.
I have a small sleeve so food is difficult and takes a while so I have that many shakes I don’t have Snacks every day plus meals I just have the shakes plus meals.
I don’t have typical carbs in meals such as rice Pasta potatoes so my meals consist of veg and meat and I will add in Beans and pulses but not always.
Sometimes its just veg and Beans or just veg if I don’t want meat.< br />I rarely eat bread I will have the odd bit and by bit I don’t even mean a slice I mean like the end of a french stick that’s about 3 bites.
I will have a wholemeal tortilla when I make fajitas so if I make that one day I will have the wrap if not no wrap that week.
I take my Vitamins every day without fail.
The “bad” things..
I do I have chips/candy/chocolate/cake/soda/booze if I fancy a bit of it oddly I haven’t had ice cream much at all I think the last time was about 8 months ago lol
I don’t over do it of course.
For me this is a tool and I wanted to be as “normal” as possible after I didn’t want to become obsessive over calorie counting food weighting never touching A B C or D again my weight and weighing myself.
I have never weighed myself at home if I am not at the doctors or at a hospital appointment its not something I go out of my way to do.
When you first come out you have a lot of appointments I had other medical stuff I was doing also so I was at the hospital weekly for months then it was every month now its spread out a little more but if I go to the doctors for any reason I will get my weight checked too that’s enough for me to be happy with.
With that being said what works for me isn’t always right for anyone else nor am I telling you to do what I do.

but yeah thats what i do!

I had 100+ to lose. I'm 3 lbs from goal and 8 lbs from my stretch/maintenance goal. I use the tools others mentioned like my fitness pal. Tracking helps me keep my head in the game and so that I know my Protein totals. I heard a lot of people talk about stalls and for whatever reason I never had any. I did up my calories gradually and steadily over time. I now eat around1,200 calories a day.

I don't weigh or measure my food either, I eyeball it. So 1,200 is an educated estimate.

Water is a big deal so stay on it. I am always thirsty now and I dehydrate fast too.

Preop I didn't exercise because it was uncomfortable. I tried to become more active over time and found that as the weight came off, I wanted to do more. I'm sure exercise may have helped with some of the weight but honestly for me it was about vanity. I want a rockin' body. Never had one before.

I have developed a horrendously wicked sweet tooth of late. I'm trying to kick it but I struggle. Just know that there is no such thing as perfection but if you follow your program's guidelines it will happen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
