WHY IN ALL HELLS AM I BLEEDING?!?!

Recommended Posts

Hey lady friends,

I have PCOS and have been taking the pill continuously (no placebo week) for YEARS (over 15 years to be precise) with out having a period.

Well for some reason, I started having moderate (not what I would deem as light) spotting a few days ago!

I haven't missed pills so that can't be it. I'm finding limited answers online but did see something (not from a doctor/medical professional) talking about how rapid weight loss can cause you to produce more estrogen or something but again, I am on the pill so I can't figure out why is this happening.

Anyone else have this happen or have an idea what the f*** is going on?

Your body(hormonally) may be adjusting to the rapid weight loss. I too have PCOS and my Gynecologist forewarned me that the condition should correct itself as my hormones regulate itself (It can also cause spontaneous ovulation) Contact your pcp or gyne for testing.(blood/pap) Best wishes to you

I had pocs and never had a period for yearssss the hormones stored in your fat cells is released when its used by your body flooding you with hormones.
This is why I now have periods and no longer have pocs it corrected its self just from my own hormones stored in my fat.
Your stored hormones seem to be overriding what your taking and your body is doing what its naturally gonna do.

Sassypants is totally on to something! ... fat cells store a lot of estrogen so perhaps that can be the reason. This is just a guess on my part. You should still make an appt with your Ob/Gyn.

Thank you for the responses ladies! All of this makes sense but that doesn't make this blood any more acceptable!

It's a good thing I was alone in the bathroom at work when I discovered this. I screamed out "WHAT THE F#$!". LOL

I see my Gyno next week...now I wonder if I should stop taking the low dose pill and go to the next level. Getting pregnant is NOT something I want. Ugh. I can't even imagine.

I didn't even know PCOS could be cured with WLS! That gives me soo much hope! Thank you for telling me that!!!

did they not tell you that you are super crazy fertile after the op and DO NOT get pregnant?

they explained in one of my pre op group meetings how your hormones flood you make you like super fertile and then the risks of becoming pregnant for the first year after.

its also funny because you know the ladies who were doing this just to get pregnant as they perked up and asked all kinds of questions at this point lol

Oh yes, I'm aware of all that but again, I'm on the pill & never miss a dose. I do not want to get pregnant now, or ever really, which is why I'm wondering if I should go off the low dose pill and up to the next dose? This bleeding business is new to me...I haven't had a period since I was like 18...that was 15 years ago. The pill has worked perfectly to keep me from having periods for allllll these years, so the fact I'm having one now after surgery when I haven't stopped taking them really SUCKS.

I would suggest speaking to your bariatric team about it too not just your obgyn as different departments don’t always know the effects this surgery has on you to deal with it properly.
Learnt that first hand, so you need to speak to both or make sure your obgyn KNOWS whats going on not just a guess or what they think but KNOWS.
Little non wls example instead of using my own my friend has major problems absorbing B Vitamins and folic acid she gets jabs for it shes now pregnant just going from her GP to her midwife she got conflicting info told just take normal prenatal Vitamins WRONG advice.
Just a case of this department thinks they know best as they deal with pregnancies day in and day out but she has other issues that have to also be addressed.
Myself I have been given the wrong medication by a GP who has no clue I now only see one GP in my doctors as I don’t want to end up in hospital again from advice from a medical professional who doesn’t get it.

Right after my surgery I was having periods every other week! I had to go up to a stronger dose of birth control too. My surgeon didn't warn me about this. She warned me about a bajilion other things, but hormone-crazyness wasn't one of them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
