I'm almost 2 weeks post op and on the full liquid until next week. I'm really struggling with head hunger. It is bordering on obsession. I see food everywhere and I crave the comfort of the taste. My husband is eating regular food and it kills me. I thought that I might come to this obstacle but I figured pre-op ickiness would help deal with it. Wrong! I'm super emotional and I have realized how much I relied on food to provide me with comfort. This may sound silly but I'm scared. I don't want this to defeat me. I need this and don't want to turn back to food addiction. This is terrible. What are some of your experiences and tips? :(

You're having to do liquids longer than I did. Are you allowed yogurt and or cottage cheese? sugar free Popsicles were a nice treat for me during that period and creamy Tomato Soup was yummy. Hang in there!

I had wicked cravings at first and thought that this was going to make me fail. However, the cravings went away and I haven't had them since. I mean, I could picture myself eating some of these foods. Just be patient and the severity of the cravings will go away as you move through the food plans.

Skinny Minnie,

I can relate. I have an eating disorder and now that my coping mechanism is gone, I find myself very emotional having to deal with feelings and also dealing with that need (head hunger) a lot. I am only 12 days out but I can say the head hunger is getting a little less and I heard it does lessen as time goes. I think it is important for us to learn other ways of dealing with our emotions and also to find other things to do with our time. I didn't want to be in the house at all this morning because I felt like I was just going to feel trapped and sad so our family went on a walk and a car ride. It helped.

Hope you feel better and please friend/message me whenever you want. I am here for you.

Kris

I actually am eating cottage cheese and yogurt which is satisfying. I've learned some new Protein shake recipes and I do eat popsicles as well. I think I just have a ton of downtime. I'm going to look for a therapist to get to the root of everything. I have some unresolved issues that need to be taken care of and wls is an emotional rollercoaster.

Hi Kris, I also struggled with an eating disorder. I know that can only complicate things more. I have been sitting around without anything to do and this makes things worse. I think that once I am up and moving, things will get better. I will be able to occupy myself more. I know that a therapist will have to be a part of my journey. I have a great support system, including all of you. :)

I know this sounds wild but I actually have two therapists now. I was seeing one when I started looking into WLS and my surgeons office has one too that I had to see in order to get approval. I now see both, because one is much more focused on WLS which I feel I need help with!

Excellent plan on seeing the therapist. Hang in there my friend. I don't know your beliefs, but I'll pray for your success. I have two dietitians, one therapist that specializes in treating obesity, and a nurse that are part of my support system. It's so important. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
