Governor Chris Christie and the Lap-Band

Governor Chris Christie and the Lap-Band

  1. 1. What do you think about the issue?

    • He failed because his BMI of 45 keeps him in the morbidly obese category.
      4
    • He is doing great because of his 100-pound weight loss in a year.
      71
    • It’s too soon to tell. He’ll fail if he doesn’t lose any more weight or gains it back, but the surgery will be a success if he keeps losing weight.
      32
    • I really can’t give an opinion – I do not know anything about him or his diet, and I would not want people to judge me if they didn’t know me.

BTW, I had only one option and it turned out to be the wrong one for me.

You can discuss what you think and feel and your experience good or bad. Your right that's what the forum is all about.

What is not needed is bashing one or another. Your experience is valid it's yours. I am grateful there are many diverse options out there for us whether we get to choose or not choose which one at least there is one. There was a time WLS did not exist. So for the good bad and ugly of it I say Hooray!

Besides the post was about Gov. Christie, and his surgery and outcome this far.

100 pound loss is great and he is still going as are we all.

Actually some are doing more touting my surgery is better then yours and here's why.... then they are explaining why they think or feel the Gov. is or is not doing well.

I was banded a few days after he was. I have lost 90 pounds and need to lose another 15. I was not as morbidly obese as the Governor, but I would say he is headed in the right direction. Keep going gov. Our politics may differ, but we have one thing in common.

I have been watching Chris Christie for the past year since that was the time frame that I started my weight loss surgery journey and he was a public figure that had an obvious weight problem. I too chose not to announce to the world that I was having the surgery preferring to keep that information private. But at some point when you have lost 60+ pounds people start noticing - he has done a great job of acknowledging he had the surgery but not letting the media or the public draw him into any weight loss discussion or pronouncements.

Hats off to a high profile public figure that managed to lose 100+ pounds in a year. Yes it is slower than the sleeve or the gastric bypass, but it is working for him and in the end that is all that really matters - he is dealing with his health in a positive way!

I voted other. I think it's a combo of "he's doing great" and "it's too soon to tell".

Have you watched the show on TLC called "My 600lb Life"?

Christie wasn't quite that heavy but kind of close. As we all know, weight loss and maintaining is a life long process. I hope that he continues in his success!

I would like to see some of his before and after pics. The ones that I have seen doesn't look like he's lost 100lbs but I didn't search that hard. I hope he's not lying like a politician ;)

As someone who has lost 100lbs I can say on a large frame it isn't as extreme as you'd think. I mean I can wear smaller clothes but they still fit the same way. My before picture compared to my current picture looks more like I lost 25lbs.

I like that he has to struggle the same as the rest of us, he has to be careful, he has to watch what he puts in his mouth. Democrat or Republican, Black, White, Asian, whatever, this surgery is the great equalizer.

I wish him health

I truly think that his journey has just began. I had Lap-Band for 10 years prior to having the Gastric Sleeve Revision surgery. If he is down a 100 lbs, he is doing well for the first year. It took more than one year to gain his weight so why would anyone think he has failed when he has lost 100 lbs! If he is able to keep on track...most don't...he could lose another 100 this year. Fact is that men can loose easier than women. But Governor Christie is in a high stress job that works against him. As long as he can workout, eat properly and reduce his stress level he will reach what ever goal he has. The Press should stay out of the equation! His changes are personal and only he can be the one to determine his personal success!

I am surprised his surgeon did the lapband on him when he has so much to lose. 100 lbs is really awesome though in a year.

Amount of weight has no bearing if the person is dedicated to making a lifestyle change...

This is true. It's just the mantra that's spewed by surgeons who try to sell their personal choice of surgery. If you say something enough people will believe it.

Where's the category "The man is slime but I wish him success with his weight loss?"

No need for this kind of speech here?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
