I don't see why not. Talk to your NUT.

Why can’t you take painkillers?
I am on them for my back and I was fine taking mine 1 month out I just broke them up into 4 (I always do anyway) and took them.
The first month I was on kids medicine called calpol but not the baby one the older kids one lol
I didn’t close to the op but for the past year I have been taking cod liver oil, one of the easiest things I could eat after the op was fish maybe if you like them try sardines or other oily fish mackerel etc to get some Omega3 oils inside you.
I could not drink that stuff ewwww but if you can go for your life lol

You shouldn't open capsules.

Hemp, Flax and Chia seeds are also high in Omegas. I am a big fan of plant Proteins.

Another idea is topical pain creams/lotions. If you cannot tolerate taking pain meds by mouth... topical compounding pain meds are very popular these days because the medication bypasses the liver and targets the site of your pain. Ask your doctor if this is an option. They are often expensive and some insurances do not cover them because they are costly but since you have a legit reason why you cannot take the meds by mouth they may cover it for you. Worth a try.

I don't know much about liquid glucosamine.

It is recommended that we don't take NSAID (ibuprofen based) pain pills post bariatric surgery because of the high incidence of stomach irritation and bleeding ulcers. There are no restrictions on aspirin and narcotic pain meds. So depending on what drug your doctor has proscribed, you may be able to take it now that your stomach has had time to heal.

Capsules and caplets are ok for bariatric patients because they are designed to dissolve in the small intestine and with sleeve surgery no changes were made to your small intestine.

I would definitely discuss your options with your doctor and nutritionist. It sounds like you might think you have more restrictions than are actually in place.

I was told no ibuprofen and no aspirin based pain meds at all.
Aspirin based meds thin the blood and can cause bleeding and also irritate the stomach lining if you had a acid problem before like moi it was already off the list and a no no med.
I take paracetamole/codeine type meds.
Find out from your doc what your allowed to take.

But flax oil or fish oil or whatever and mix in in with your shake/smoothie, you'll never know it's there.

If your surgeon's office is far, why not call the office and ask? I think that the answer to your question should come from your doctor. Everyone on here means well but your doctor knows your medical history and should be the one to tell you what medications or supplements you can and can not take.

Good luck, I hope you find pain relief soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
