I'm so confused, what is going on?

Recommended Posts

Okay so here is my dilemma , I hope it makes sense to someone! I just had my second fill Monday and for the first 24 hours per my doctors instructions I did liquids.

When I go to eat, the first couple of bites I have to completely stop and wait a few minutes to resume eating. A couple of times I have had to walk around for a minute. The reason being is because I get the feeling is like I am about to get stuck! I pretty much can feel my esophagus contracting to push the food down, it will hurt like the dickens then stop then, hurt then stop kinda like a pulsating feeling. Then after around 3 or 4 minutes I will burp or hickup and then everything is fine and I can finish my meal with no problems. So has anybody experienced anything like this or am I just weird? I hope this makes sense, kinda hard to explain.

I have had similar experiences while starting solids again after a fill. Within a few days to a week, it seems to settle in...... At least, for ME!

No, nothing weird at all....you're learning the band...I have to stop and pause all the time, then resume with smaller bites, chew better...take it slower if I am to continue....

I recall some things I was told early on...bites should not be larger than a pencil eraser? I should put the fork down between bites....and of course the chewing...

All of which is still extremely hard to do all the time...so yes, I need to stop and wait...

There is also a signal as to when to stop altogether....for me, hiccups come later and usually means I'm finished...but after 15 minutes I may still have dessert...

Everyone has to learn their own band, as to the signals, what they can and what they cannot do...

Yes, it's pretty normal after a fill. You have to just remember to take really small bites.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
